I have a desk top that my parents bought me when I finished high school...5 years ago. It has since contracted a terminal illness and is nearing the end of it's life and no virus scans can save her. She's also bulky and a peice of $hit. I wanted an apple but my dad said it's a waste of money for a fancy name. I donno anything about electronics.

I have a Dell...and like it...for the most part. MAC's are cool...but ptobably ot worth the money unless you do graphics and stuff. But i really dont know

I have a dell laptop. It's a inspiron 600 but it's like 3 or 4 years old and it's not only big, but really heavy. It definitely gets the job done though so that's all i'm concerned with. Dell has some really nice and affordable laptops out right now and some of them are super small. A lady in my class has one and it is about the size of a portable dvd. I'm pretty sure my next laptop will be an apple though. I used to work in a computer lab in undergrad and they have really grown on me. They don't get as many viruses, there's more programs you can do, and in many ways, they can be easier to use (but that by preference).

I have an IBM thinkpad. I got it bc i need it every day for school and they are supposed to be great and not have problems. Mine has had a number of minor problems but it's pretty good I guess.
My sis had a ton of problems with her dell. they are good for desktops but not laptops.
17' HD screen, lots of memory etc. he doesnt need to carry it to class so the weight doesnt matter as much. we did a lot of pricing out and it seems to be a great deal. My IBM was quite a bit more, but I'm using it for totally different things.
You might want to check out the HP

ibm thinkpads..aka Lenovo's are the best. fh and i have a few of them. mine is on 24.7(obviously im always online) and i havent had a problem. they arent pretty like sony but they are great.

I have a Sony Vaio. I like it. It types papers and lets me surf the web, which is all I need. FH as a Mac, and he loves it. But he's a computer geek

i had an IBM thinkpad which i loved....until it got stolen in college. we recently bought a MacBook. it takes a while to get used to and i dont love it as much as the PC.
BUT fh says the mac doesnt contract any viruses or spyware. so that in itself is worth the investment.
havent heard great things about dell. but...to each his own.

I have a Macbook and LOVE LOVE LOVE it so much more than windows. We never get error messages, it boots up faster than any PC.......it was well worth the $1200 we dropped on it. FH is an electronics geek and really did a lot of research before we bought the laptop. Hate using thie computer at work.....windows stinks!

I have Dell Inspiron. Its 3 years old now and still working. I feel its a lil slow and soon I will probably need to get a new one , maybe within a year or so. My sister had a gateway that is very nice.

Macbook Pro...LOVE IT! Worth the extra money. Had it for a year now, without any problems. Got after ALOT of research.
If you can afford it, I say go for it.

i have an apple lap top and I LOVE IT!!!! i used to have pc before but last xmas Fh surprised me with my macbook and i haven't had a problem with it at all!!! i love it!. AND THEY ARE WORTH THE MONEY....
