NWR--What would you do??

I just started a new job last week and my bosses dad passed away. Do you think it's necessary to go to the wake? It's in NJ and I live and work in Brooklyn.

Also consider that he's transfering to NJ in June. So he won't be my boss for that long and I met him a week ago.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think that it's necessary that you go. I would just send a card.

Not necessary.

Maybe send a card with your condolences, maybe a small arrangement if you'd like, but that would be almost too generous of you.

They understand. I think the best thing you can do is hold down the fort at the old job and just give him a card

I agree, a card and flowers, but you don't have to go to the wake.

Yeah I think a card is more than enough.

I said yes and while I understand what everyone is saying, I personally think you should make the effort to go. You'll be working with him until June so that's three months. If the transfer is internal he might have some input come review time and a few nice words can go a long way.

Personally, I find that in a time like this, when you make the effort it means a lot to people. Always a good thing. Plus it goes beyond your boss...your new boss may be there as well and your presence may make some people take notice. JMO.

I happen to agree with this. Having people around you when a loved one dies really does mean a lot and I would think it would speak volumes about you.
