So my FH has been thinking about going away to school for the last two years on and off, and finally he has decided for real that he is going back. Only thing is, the school is either in Phoenix or Myrtle Beach and he would leave 2 months after our wedding... I definitely want him to go and I'm really encouraging it, but the question is - what do I do? He will be gone for 16 months, I want to stay here and go back to school (I only need 3 more classes or so to get certiifed to teach) and I Have to support both of us, since he can't have a job, so I think I should stay at my decent paying job for a while, but I just feel bad that I'm not going with him... So frustrated

Couldn't you take your last few classes where he goes? I understand your frustration. It would stink to live apart just 2 months after getting married!

16 months is a long time to be with out each other. You are just getting married and he is leaving 2 months after. You wont even now what it feels like to me married. 16 months is to long!!!!!!! The only option I would give is one of you need to compromise. Either he goes to a school closer to here, or you move with him, and go back to school at a later date. Or go to school where you will live. Who knows, maybe you will get a teaching job where ever you live and you will wind up staying their. LI is getting very expensive to live.
You need to come up with some plan, because 16 months is to long to be with out each other. That is not a healthy marriage, it is going to cause alot of strain on the both of you.

Re: NWR -What would you do?
I want to be certified to teach in NY, so I can't, but, he's going to a school that only has golf related majors. He's not gonna stay in either of those states either and every year for the past three years, I have moved around for him and it's kinda frustrating to get used to one school job and than quit after a year. I'm just so frustrated, b/c I feel bad for not wanting to go with him! As hard as the distance will be, he wants me to stay here and finish up my stuff to better myself, so I guess we'll see. Thanks for listening!

Do what ever you are comfortable with. In my opinion maybe you should hold off on the marriage then, because 16 months is to long. I hope I don't offened you, I didn't mean it in a bad way.

The only good thing outta this is that he will be in between semesters from mid April to mid May and he can come home, and than my athletic training job ends at the end of May, so I'll have three months, where I can go be with him wherever he is... SO many decisions to make!

If you are that far along I strongly think he should stay one semester for you to finish. Then you can go with him.

Re: NWR -What would you do?
its not something that i would do, but everybody is different. you can finish your college with him and still teach in NYS. just meet the NYS requirements of credit and experience within the allowed timeframe and you shouldnt have a problem. my fi and i are picking up and moving after the wedding so i can go to school for school counseling and be able to find a job...fi is making it work with his job so that he can move and expand their business into NC. we wouldnt dream of being apart for a long time if we could avoid it. good luck!~lacey

Hi, I don't think he should do it. He should pick a major/field in which he can take classes locally at night, and work during the day. This sounds like a huge burden for you, and could cause problems in your marriage.

Re: NWR -What would you do?
are the classes that you need to take available online? I used to go to NYIT and take all online classes. this way you can be with him and maybe just come back up to take your certification tests?
