NWR: What would you do

NWR: What would you do

We live in an apt building. All apt buildings surround us.

For the past month, this dog has been barking NON-STOP throughout the day. I noticed because I was off the end of March, and heard this dog all morning. Now it's also in the evening. One night we heard someone yell 'shutup.' This is the same dog and it's allllllllll the time. It's neglect/abuse.
The thing is we dont know which building or what apt. It's not our apt, we hear it from the building behind us. They are all close though so maybe it's another building. Dino thinks it's the one right behind us.

I called 311 a few weeks ago, and they said they couldnt do anything because we dont know the address or apt. They said to call ASPCA. I did, and they said first we have to call 311 and complain about noise before they look into neglect.

It must have been bad again today because Dino called ASPCA. They said they cant do anything.

Should we go into the building behind us, go on each floor and hear where it's coming from?? I dont know how none of their neighbors are calling and complaining. It's soo sad. Yesterday, it sounded soo tired and crying/whining.

What would you do???

I think I'd go looking for it and maybe knock on a few doors, asking the neighbors if they know the situation. I'm sure there have been complains made with the super or building manager. Investigate. See what's going on. It might just be a SUPER annoying/untrained dog. I love dogs, but that kind of barking drives me up the WALLS.

I hope you can get to the bottom of this!!

I'm a bitchh and I can't stand people who may not be taking proper care of their animals.

I'd hang flyers up all over my building for everyone to see that this has been going on and that the ASPCA will be called.

oh Id so go and investigate! Id find out and report them. who knows why that dog is barking all day.

I live in Suffolk and one day every person on the block who had a dog got a written warning about barking. If the dog is in the house in the town of brookhaven, it can bark. If its outside, it can bark constantly up to 15 minutes straight before there's a fine.

ugh.

Are you sure it's neglect/abuse? I only ask because one of my dogs has separation anxiety and he will cry and bark sometimes for hours.

He has gotten much better since getting older and since we got our second pup to keep him company.

It is awesome that you and FH are trying to get involved in case a dog is suffering because so many people do nothing.

I am not sure what advice to give you since 311 and aspca are spinning you guys in circles...Is there a landlord in the building you can contact to get the apart number?

Ok, I'm going to go with my gut, and go and investigate to find out where the he ll this barking is coming from. This poor dog. :(

It makes me so sad. It's EVERY DAY, at almost all hours. ughhh dont get a dog if you cant take care of it!

Thanks girls

if you think the dog sounds like he/she is being neglected (vs just being a badly trained dog), then you should walk around and try to figure out where the dog lives. Get the address and call 311 again.

Or maybe you could speak with your super and see if he knows anything about the situation? maybe he already knows which building it is.

good luck and kudos on actually doing something to help this poor pup!

I guess it could be this! It's just all the time. morning, afternoon, evening, night. I don't know.
