i don't have one yet and have been calling around but what i noticed is that all of the female ob/gyn are booked or have appointments available in late June! one of the receptionist told me there's an available, sooner appointment but it is a MALE doctor.
i asked FI about it and he really doesn't like the idea. i for one, am not sure what to feel about it.

Re: nwr: whats your take on having...
I prefer a woman because I feel slightly more comfortable BUT I've been to both men and women GYNs and it's always fine.
Let's face it, someone is NOT going to whittle away years and years in med school just because they fantasize about looking up women's vaginas.
That's why the internet exists. There plenty of stuff online for any freaky-deakys.

i could care less.
and just ... for any of you girls planning to have a baby in a hospital one day... you might as well **** it up now.
cuz chances are you'll be in the hospital in some sort of labor for a good chunk of a day and will probably be seen by several doctors.
not to mention that a lot of practices, when you're pregnant, will have you be seen by every doctor BECAUSE they know you could be delivered by ANY of them depending on when you go into labor.
it's just a hoo-hah. they've seen a million of them. its not sexual.
here here!! couldn't have said it better myself!! when examining a patient, we're not thinking 'wow im totally looking a this cooch' it's just like examining a throat. not thought of in any strange way.
but with that being said. you must feel comfortable with your ob/gyn, this is someone that you will need to trust and really like.

I've been seeing OB/GYNs since I was 14, I've had issues, and they've almost all been men, no problem. I don't really see the issue whether it's a man or a woman?

Mine's a man.... I love him. The exam is over before I know it. I have seen women too and I didn't love them.... Although, if you're thinking of having kids, think of this. My friend 'warned me' not to have a baby with him. When I asked why, she said 'his hands are huge'...

i go to a man. i don't have a problem with the fact that he's a man, but he is kind of an awful doctor in terms of patient care. i should probably find someone new.

I've seen both, and I don't really have a preference. I've seen male and female doctors that I've hated, and ones that I loved. But I do agree with some of the other girls about sucking it up, because if you have a baby, unless your a scheduled c-section, whoever is on call is who will deliver your baby, you have no say that day unfortunately.

My sister is an OB/GYN and I asked her about this. She said before she was a dr she would have NEVER gone to a male OB but now that she does it for a living you gets it. It's nothing sxeual, it's all just looking at an instrument. She doesn't even see it as looking at it anymore. After she said that I tried a male and he was more gentle then a woman and he also made me feel more comfortable.

Ive been to men and women. I hate them all but the men Ive been to are always very professional and make me feel as comfortable as possible.

Re: nwr: whats your take on having...
always used a woman doctor....except when I had my daughter...my OB/GYN was part of a group with two male doctors..and I had to see them also in case they were on duty when the baby was delivered...which is what happened. Male doctor delivered my daughter...but at that point I didnt care.

i used to have a male OB/GYN ... he was really really good but FH just wasn't comfortable with me going to a guy so i found a new (female) doctor recently.
honestly, i like the guy doctor MUCH more than the female (so far, at least)

I prefer men...and have to say that in my experience they are much more 'delicate' than a woman.
***Wow...just realized how wrong that sounds! What I have experienced is that he female Dr's are a bit more rough and far less understanding....hope that sounds a bit better
i actually 100% agree with you!

My sister is a Doctor and she told me that a Male OB/GYN are often more knowledgable and caring. They aren't born with the parts so they study harder. She said women are usually more cold and rough and feel like they know everything because they were born with all the parts.
I have a female Doctor, but I used to go to a man. I really don't care either way as long as they know what they are doing and have some sort of personality to calm my nerves.

why was your FH uncomfortable? i'm just curious as to why he would have a preference on what gender your doctor is.
eta: i definitely don't mean this to sound biatchy or anything, just wondering.

I have a male OBGYN. Dr. Lance is the shitt! I love him! I've actually only had male OBGYNs and I don't have any issues with them, they've all been cool.

I've been to many ob/gyns and I definitely prefer men - I also find them to be a bit more gentle and explain things in more detail
