NWR: Window Tinting...

Does anyone know if it is illegal to have your driver and passanger windows tinted? I know there is a level of darkness you can't go past but now I am hearing having those 2 windows tinted at all and you can get tickets.

I was going to get this for FH for his birthday next week but don't want to if it means he is going to get pulled over for it.

FH cousins works for a tinting company and he said you can have the front windows up to a certain % not sure what that is though

Thats what I thought. I had an old Jetta of mine tinted and I had all 4 windows done. I just couldn't go over a certain darkness. (Well I could have but it would have been stupid too) Thanks

you should definitely find out the information before doing it. when i was a kid my parents got pulled over for having tinted windows (the car they had came from Florida). not only did they get a ticket but they had to get it removed & within a certain amount of time from the date of the ticket.

its not illegal completely but there are grades that are illegal.... most cops dont care and you can only get a ticket for it if they pull you over... i never got pulled over for it... but there was a check point and thats when i got a ticket... they make you roll down the window and they put a thing over the window that measures the grade of the tint....

i had all the windows done... both windshields and all the other windows as well... i only got 1 ticket in the 3 years i had the car

well he would def only get the legal darkness. My friend got pulled over for only her tints a few days ago that's why I am concerned.

I have my windows tinted. It came with the car when I bought it but i don't know the level or darkness it is.

I forget what the percentage is to be illegal. I have no idea why 30% is coming to mind but I could be totally wrong. Pretty much every car I have ever had has had all windows tinted, and more than the legal limit. The ONLY time it was an issue for me was when I was driving in the Hamptons late one Saturday night and got pulled over by a copy bc he thought I might have been drunk driving (which I was not). So it was like he was looking to give me a ticket for something - then he measured the tints on my windows and said they were illegal - but never gave me a ticket for them. Go figure.

I'm confused about it too. I took FH's car, which he bought in CT with Limo tint, you can't see anything unless the sunroof is open. He never got pulled over, and I got pulled over once by 2 rookies who were complete jerks that just wanted to give me a hard time and never gave me a ticket. I do know 2 guys who were pulled over and the cops made them start stripping off the tint then and there. But thier tint was very dark and I am sure they got an attitude. (this was all in Staten Island, I don't know how it is in LI).

I know limo tint is definitely illegal for all 4 windows (I think its like 80% tinted). An ex of mine had limo tint on one of his cars, and he got rid of it because he was sick of getting pulled over for it all the time.
