I'm getting my bottom 2 wisdom teeth out on saturday and I am scared! I don't handle doctors that well. What should I expect? I believe they are putting me out and I've never had an IV before!

Re: NWR: wisdom teeth removal
Last year my sister had about 8 or 9 removed (yes she is a freak and had that many all stacked up on top of each other, under her gums) and she survived. She was having odd breathing problems at the time too so she couldnt be knocked out. She was in a alot of pain for the first 2 days, and since she gets super nausious from pain meds she could only take advil. I think it took about 3 days for her to start feeling good.

Jess, the surgery itself is cake - you'll be fine! Once the IV is in, the next thing you know they are waking you up to tell you its done!
I won't lie. . mine were impacted so I had a rough couple days afterward too. I was in a lot of pain, but the doctor gave me vicodin and that helped.
Ice it like yelley said, and when you go to sleep that night, put a towel over your pillow - I drooled blood and ruined my pillows
You'll be fine! Just get the painkillers
thanks, I'm glad you said that, I just got new pillows!

so coming from someone who had a crappy experience i will tell you that you will survive it and you will be ok - just follow all the directions, take it easy and rest! good luck!!
I have a feeling this is the route it will go! They're pushing up against the other molars (like sideways) and the dentists said it's an accident waiting to happen. I kept imagining an emergency extraction a few days before my wedding which is how I was able to work up the courage to get them out this weekend! Thanks for the honesty nicole
that is the EXACT reason i had mine done - b/c of the wedding - i was too afraid otherwise even if it is bad, which it might not be - its not the worst thing and you will get through it - for me it was really crappy but honestly i slept most of the time - once its done its OVER and you NEVER have to do it again - i have to say that i am glad i did it b/c now i dont have to worry about it!

Jess... I won't lie... my bottom two hurt more than my top two but with lots of motrin, I was feeling better the next day.
Some good things to eat are eggs, jello, pudding, ice cream (YAY!), mashed potatoes... anything that doesn't really require chewing and DO NOT drink thru a straw.
Good luck!!! Ollie and your FH will take good care of you.
PS... the IV will make you a bit drowsy...almost really drunk. I did my wisdom teeth in two sessions (first the bottoms and then the top). The first time after I came to, I was crying and I didn't know why... the second time, I came to and asked if they would give me the teeth they just pulled... I was out of it... You'll be fine

Re: NWR: wisdom teeth removal
Oh gosh good luck. I'm not trying to scare you but it was definitely painful. I got all 4 out and was out for like a week sleeping and on the couch in pain. I didn't take the pain killers though because they said vomitting was a side effect and I didn't want to throw up and break the stitches. I just took Tyenol, etc which is probably why I was in more pain. The day of it didn't hurt at all though. I was fine until late the first night. I was more nervous about being put to sleep and was even debating staying awake but I am very glad I decided to go to sleep. It was actually funny when I woke up I was so out of it and I was telling the nurse how nice she was and that I loved her

Haha. I had to go back to get my stitches out and the same nurse was there and I was so embarassed. I seriously must have told her I loved her 20 times.
How is your puppy feeling?

Glad to hear she is feeling better. We should definitely set up a play date. Oreo needs another puppy with his energy level to play with!

Funny you ask.. I just got mine out last night. I wasn't put to sleep though. I'm on pain killers and can't eat anything! It's not the most pleasant feeling in the world!

Definitely! I feel so bad, ollie has no friends because she's a puppy and she likes to jump on other dogs and they don't like her for that. She whines when another dog won't play with her. It's so sad!

I'll definitely ask for percoset too, thank you. It didn't make you nauseous at all, did it?

Re: NWR: wisdom teeth removal
I had two taken out 3 years ago. You want to make sure someone goges with you if you are being put under. I was and had novacaine too! I also had an IV in my hand..It only lasted for 45 mins and then I had all this packing in my mouth for about a day. You may swell...please don't do what I did..I was afraid of the swelling so I kept the Ice Pack on there and it took a long time for the novacaine to wear off...Wait till after the novacaine wears off and then apply the ice pack!!!! They will give you meds for the pain so don't worry...it's not that bad! And I am the biggest baby when it comes to dentists!!!!

No way! Oreo does the same exact thing!!!!! All of the other dogs hate him because he jumps on them and cries to play and they don't want to be bothered. When do you want to set this playdate up for?

not me , tylenol with codene does. unfortunatly that is one of the downsides of pain killers ( ok the ONLY downside of them )
