Re: NWR: Wisdom Tooth

Karen,
Hi, I work for a dentist. If you take a tea bag & wet it then put it in the area of the tooth & bite on it gently for a little while it should help temporarily.
If you are in your 20's or older you will need to have the tooth extracted at some point because flare ups are reoccuring & the only solution is to remove the tooth. Let me know if you need any help.
Kelly

Re: NWR: Wisdom Tooth

This is so funny that you posted this, for the past week my wisdom tooth was killing me. The whole side of my mouth was swollen so bad that I kept biting my own cheek. On Christmas Eve I couldn't even eat! The pain has since subsided and I am back to normal. This happened before and I asked my dentist about it, she said that my tooth is coming in fine and removing it is optional. She said that every once in a while it will give me some pain and if it becomes too troublesome she will remove it. I always figured the occasional pain was better than what I imagine to be a terrifying experience of having it taken out. But, after my recent week of pain, I was pretty close to running to my dentist in hysterics.

Re: NWR: Wisdom Tooth

Right now I am chewing on ice... It seems to make the pain stop. Ive been reading (and scaring myself) about an impacted tooth and how they have to take it out!!! Im just REALLY glad to know that your pain went away. I just figure that the tooth is moving and will stop eventually. I was thinking about going to the dentist... its hurt for about 3 days now... off and on (more on than off though) Thanks for the info!!!

Re: NWR: Wisdom Tooth

When I was younger I had a problem with my wisdom teeth they were all impacted and infected. I was a mess. I had ear problems and vision problems not to mention horrible pain. I would not fool around with the situation. Make a dentist appointment.

Re: NWR: Wisdom Tooth

Hi,I'm a RDH--dental hygienist. It's not the tooth moving that's causing you pain. It's debris and food getting stuck under the flap of gum around the erupting wisdom tooth. It's a condition called pericornitis. It'll come and go as long as that wisdom tooth is 'trying' to come in. Some wisdon teeth never fully erupt. Keep it very clean, and SEE YOUR DENTIST. Extractions aren't as bad as you've been reading. You NEVER read about the good dental stories!

Re: NWR: Wisdom Tooth

I have the same problems with my wisdom teeth for about 7 years now. I get this dull pain down the side of my mouth. It will last for 5-7 days and then go away for awhile. It is usually worse at a certain time of the month. My wisdom teeth are definitely impacted! I would get it checked and if you have dental insurance and can afford it, I would get them out! Unfortunately, I haven't had dental insurance for the last 7 years and prefer not to spend over $1000 getting 2 teeth pulled. I got 2 out of 4 done (emergency surgury - they got really bad). I am married now and have dental insurance so as soon as my life slows down a little - I am running to get mine done! My dentists yell at me everytime I go to get them done!

Re: NWR: Wisdom Tooth

I have my last wisdom tooth hurting me right this moment as I add this post, reminding me to make the appt with the oral surgeon... in my experience with the other three I had, the only thing that relieves the pain for good is to have it removed, which my dentist has been yelling at me for the past 2 years to have this one removed but I'm really terrible and wait until it hurts to do something about it!

Re: NWR: Wisdom Tooth

Funny you posted this. I am going through the same thing. It seems like everytime I say I am going to the dentist the pain stops. My husband was just telling me this weekend to go to the dentist anyway so that they can tell me if its growing in correctly. His wisdom grew in slanted and it was pushing his other tooth in front of it so he had it removed. I just hope mine is growing in correctly. I am with you I really don't want to have it extracted.

Re: NWR: Wisdom Tooth

My dentist had told me if hurt more than 3 times he was going to take it out. I wanted to be put out so he sent me to an oral surgeon. The tooth formed a cyst between the bone and tooth but my dentist said it was normal. The oral surgeon on the other hand made it on the bill as a large tumor so I was over charged!!!! My insurance of course did not pick up any of the bill not even to check if my large tumor was cancerous. I have one more to be pulled. Ugh!

Re: NWR: Wisdom Tooth

I got my four wisdom teeth pulled out. One was impacted and the others were not. I got 2 taken out in an emergency surgery and the other 2 taken out a few months later. I had them taken out using only regular novicaine and not anesthesia (sp?). Trust me, pulling out the wisdom teeth is NOTHING compared to the pain that you are feeling now. Yes, it's uncomfortable, but it only lasts for a few days. If you need a good oral surgeon, FM me. He's located in Glen Cove and he is great!! He's very gentle.

Good Luck and feel better!

Re: NWR: Wisdom Tooth

I am dental phobic, and I had to get my wisdom tooth pulled becuase it cracked, formed an abscess and then exposed a nerve.I was panic striken it was the worst pain in my life. Let me tell you, I was begging the dentist for novacaine, and sweet air, and I was so much happier after the tooth came out. Getting the novacaine shots was worse then the tooth extraction! It was well worth it, I never want to experience that pain again. I might have to get another one out, but the dentist is trying to avoid it if possible- the pulp is there but not crown, he had me on antibiotics when it flared up once becuase I got popcorn stuck in it, but I make sure to keep it super clean and he checks it every time I go to the dentist.

Re: NWR: Wisdom Tooth

Ronnie had his impacted back right b4 Turkey Time.. He was crying with pain and we had to pay $$ for it...

Thank God my cousin who is a dentist sent us to his associate and he gave us a huge discount.. It would have been 2500.. We paid 650.. Nice..

But he had to get gas and he started to FREAK out. So they had to give him all kinds of shots.. Then he had to get stitches and then came VIKS..

He is Fine now..

Get that baby out.. You can get VERY SICKIE!!!!!!

Re: NWR: Wisdom Tooth

You might want to remove the tooth b/c when mine were growing in, they didn't hurt but were slowly shifting my teeth. It took me about a year to notice. I didn't wear braces for 2 1/2 years for nothing.

Check with your dentist.
