NWR: Work Injury Frustration!

I got hurt at work 2 weeks ago. I twisted my left ankle and smashed my right knee. Anyway, i had to go to Health Services (the company med) to get treated. my knee has been killing me for the past few days, sharp pain, popping out of the socket....anyway this week i went for a recheck and the Doc is sending me to PT....so normally it would be fine right??

This doc has never once sent me for an xray or and MRI....call me crazy, but i dont want to go to PT before knowing whats wrong....

Does this sound right to anyone?

No you would usually get some kind of a picture taken unless he can tell whats wrong from looking and touching it . Did he tell you what is wrong with it? Can you tell what it says on the perscription that he gave you?

I have been to PT many times for different things and my sis is a PT.

all he says is its a bruise......ive had many bruises and i highly doubt that it is what is causing so much pain. its just a script for pt for my LT ankle and RT knee

I work in PT and that happens sometimes. Your therapist may phone your primary and request further testing. The PT will evaluate you on day one and take it from there. Good luck and feel better

Having been afflicted with tendonitis in my arm since July '07, and not having had an MRI right away, I strongly suggest you have one!!!!! When I first injured my arm, I definitely felt something pull in it. I doubt intially it was tendonitis, but who knows?? I didn't have an MRI until Dec. !!!!! I'm still not better. I don't know what to do next!! But, please get an MRI. Mary MOB

'09er crashing...

Have you reported the injury to your job? Since you got hurt on the job, you should report it ASAP if you haven't. Also, speak with a Workman's Comp atty because you should not be liable for any dr. bills. If you don't know of any Comp attorneys, FM me. Feel better!

Re: NWR: Work Injury Frustration!

I am a PT student. Physical Therapists perform an evaluation in order to generate a diagnosis and develop a plan of care. Components of the exam are able to differentiate between various sources of symptoms (ie which tissue / structure is injured)....That being said, a PT will be able to determine when further diagnostic imaging is required. You don't need a diagnosis to see a PT - it is very common for the doctor to write 'evaluate and treat' on the prescription. The PT will formulate a specific treatment based on the findings in the initial evaluation.
(just so you know, NY recently passed direct access, which means that you no longer need a prescription to see a PT- they can treat you from the start and refer out when necessary.... now its a matter of getting insurance to reimburse for treatment without referral!)
Sorry to go off on a tangent- hope this helped! Good luck!!

Re: NWR: Work Injury Frustration!

The PT has to do an eval regardless of whether there is a diagnosis or if it just says to treat- in order to be covered by insurance the ins company has to read the eval done by the PT and then determine how many visits are needed, etc. They will send your doctor a copy of their findings, and refer you back to the doctor if they think more testing is needed.

FM me if you have any questions that I can help with.
