NWR - work question

So I try to go above and beyond at work all the time. I said that I would help run an event until 9pm tonite after work a few weeks ago. Last week I had to get oral surgery and did not realize the amount of pain that I would be in. I have been living on painkillers just to make it through the day/night and it's awful. I basicaly get through a day of work and go home and pass out. I was really hoping I would feel better by today for the event but I'm really not. :( I HATE backing out of a committment but I dont know what to do. I just dont think I'm going to be able to make it until 9pm today when I really have to push myselt to stay until 5pm. If I wasnt saving my vacation days for my honeymoon, I would not even be at work. What would you girls do? I mean they do have other people helping out at the event too.

I think you need to talk to your boss and tell them whats going on. If they dont understand, so be it.

But if you are in THAT much pain, dont kill yourself.

ALSO! tell them now, not at noon, or 2pm. If you are going to talk to them, give them time to find a replacement.

You need to do what is right for you. Maybe you could go home now and rest up, then come back for the event later? That way you won't be working straight through all day. You'll have a break. I think you should just go and talk to your boss now, tell him/her what is up. You never know, they may be more understanding than you think!

Feel better, sweetie!

I say use your sick days. I used to never do that, I hated calling out sick. But, if you're not feeling well, why go to work.

People at work dont care if your sick, they just want the job done.

I've been learning the hard way during my 6 year long teaching career that you have to take care of yourself FIRST. I say that you should ask your boss if you could go home for a few hours and then come back for the event if they can't find a replacement--do you get half sick days? I know that you're planning on using them up for your HM/wedding, but after oral surgery, you REALLY need to take some time off.

(Yeah, I'm saying this as I'm in an allergy-induced fog that should have kept me home today. . .only reason why I didn't leave work early is because my 6th graders have to give a performance on Thursday night and they're REALLY not ready. I'm not going to teach my private lessons, though. . .have to remember to call the family. . .)
