I can completely relate! Now granted I don't have a very common name but people always call me Janet (with the T) (instead of Janel ..yes thats an L ! ) it happened 4 times this week alone! I'm tempted to pull the reverend aside before the ceremony to make sure he says my name right! This is so funny that this was posted because I have been bothered all week about this very topic!

Re: NWR: Your Name
I can't even tell you how many people have NO idea what to do with my name...Chantelle.
I get Chanterelle, Chandelle, Chantal, Shantle, Chontrelle, Chantilly... its crazy. I answer to anything resembling my actual name at this point.

Well not quite as bad as you have it (being called by a different name!), but I'm Andrea and there are about 15 different ways to pronounce it. Its one thing if we're just meeting for the first time, but its another if I've known you for many years.
I pronounce it 'Anne-dree-uh' not Anne-dray-uh or Ahn-dray-uh or Ahn-dree-uh (90210 style lol) and it drives me CRAZY when people I've known forever pronounce it any other way! Usually I don't say anything though. I think this is why as a teacher I always make sure I ask a student on the first few days if I'm pronouncing their name correctly and what they prefer to be called (Jessy instead of Jessica, for example).
I have the same name same pronunciation and have the same problem. Its annoying. I just tell ppl to call me ang and some friends call me dre, I dislike being called ann though.

Me!! I remember in school they for some reason couldn't keep the H and the end, so the first day of school when the teacher paused and started at the paper I knew I was up. Or I got some weird pronunciation

Re: NWR: Your Name
At work apparently customers mishear my name on the phone constantly....Apparently Dawn = Donna. Its even better when I send an e-mail and say its my name 'DAWNL@!@#$%^&.com.' and they send the email 'Dear Donna...as we discussed...' ***.
