NWR.....Anyone ever have a dry socket??

I had a tooth pulled and I developed a dry socket. It is the most painful agonizing thing I have ever experienced in my life!!!!! Has anyone had this and can give me any insight on how long it will take to heal?

I'm already going to my oral surgeon every day to have medicated dressings put in. They def help but when they wear off the pain comes back in full force so I know its not going away yet I'm getting married in 18 days!!

My FSIL just had this after getting her wisdom teeth pulled. She was also in a lot of pain. She couldn't sleep at night, eat at all, or even open her mouth wide enough to brush her teeth. She got an antibiotic and felt better within a week.

OMG you poor thing! I got dry socket after I had my wisdom teeth pulled. I remember how painful it was and I was also going ever day or two to get the dressings. Just make sure you keep going and getting it changed and ask for pain killers if you don't already have them. The painkillers were the only thing that kep me sane! I think it took about a week to feel better. You will be good before your wedding. Good luck and feel better!

I was on Amoxicillin for 10 days(started before I had the tooth pulled to prevent infection) then Clindamycin for 4 days, but then it totally destroyed my stomach so I had to stop. I hope this gets better soon, its terrible!

I think you may have to go back to the dentist so they can do something for it ... This happened to DH and he was just miserable! Call your dentist ASAP!

I hope you feel better soon!

Thank you.....did they do anything else for your DH besides the medicated dressings?

I just asked him, he said the dentist put clove oil (or something like that) on gauze and it was instant relief ...

Personally I have never had this but my brother did. He said it took about 5 days to heal, just make sure you keep going back to the dentist to have the dressing changed. They soaked his gauze in something which helped to heal it faster. Just make sure you don't smoke or drink anything out of a straw!

The painkillers also helped my FSIL. She was just going crazy. She was in so much pain. I hope you feel better soon!!

Oh no!!! I am so sorry you are dealing with this. I have no experience with it but I am keeping my fingers crossed for you that everything gets better! Don't worry your wedding is far enough away it will get better by then!

I think the medicated dressing is the only thing they can do for it, unfortunately. Maybe ask if they can give you a different painkiller that will be easier on your stomach? Hang in there, it will get better!

YES! It was awful (I had 3 of four wisdom teeth pulled turn into dry socket, I thought the excruciating pain was normal lol). They are going to put clove oil on it and it will help a lot!!!! I suggest you go to the drugstore and buy some, so that when it wears off, you can reapply it with a q-tip. When you go to the doctor they will inject your socket with it and everything you eat for the next week will taste like burnt rubber but you won't feel as much pain at least lol. But yea that is my tip: clove oil on a q-tip!
