My niece is 6 years old and she has her first loose tooth. There's even a tooth growing behind it!! She's petrified of letting anyone go near her tooth but it has to come out. I have her for the week and would like to get this tooth out. How can I get her to let me try to pull it. She starts crying anytime we talk about it and her mother (my sister) hasnt tried to do anything about it! Should I just take her to the dentist? I think the dentist would be more traumatizing than if she let me remove it myself! Help!

Try giving her foods that might help it come out like apples or something hard she has to bite into. Kids can be stubborn and if she doesn't want anyone near it you prob won't be able to. You can try saying if you let me try to pull it we can go to toys r us and pick something out but things like that never work with my son he would just say Ma I have enough toys lol.

I TRIED the TOYS R US thing today!!! And she said, its okay I dont wanna go ( in the saddest voice ever) I'll try the apple thing. They are so smart! I told her I would try with a towel and if it hurt she could tell me and I would stop. Wish me luck! Thanks for the tips

Yeh they are too smart its funny. If worse comes to worse I would just call the dentist and ask him if its ok, he might just say let it come out itself.

Really?? Thats what some people told me but I remember when I was little my teeth were growing in behind and the loose tooth became tighter and tighter and the dentist had to pull it eventually. Im going to go the hard food route.
God, I remember the TORTURE techniques of my day. There was the string tied to the tooth and pull technique. Then the string, tied to the tooth, tied to the door technique and SLAM!

my baby teeth did not get tighter; eventually they fell out on their own
if you are not sure, take her to the dentist but i would NOT do it myself

Just let it come out by itself. The last thing you want to do is take it out before it is ready. If there is already a tooth showing Im sure it will be coming out anyday on its own.

The same exact thing happened with my niece last week. Let it just come out naturally. It will. It needs to come out when it's ready

I agree with the girls. Let it come out naturally. It will eventually come out on its own or when she bites into something.

If the hard food doesnt work have her Major flossing of it, it may just pop out.
Thats what i did with one of my teeth. It wasnt even that loose but I was flossing for a while and it just popped out.

when you are done feeding her have her wipe her mouth with a cloth wash cloth..tell her there is something on her tooth..let her 'wash ' her teeth with the wash cloth...then have her brush them ...when shes done tell her it still isnt off and revert back to wash cloth...dont hover etc...and DONT mention the lose tooth....this should losen it tremendously and then it should just come out with the 'rubbing' of the wash cloth

How loose is the tooth? i always had this when I was younger, Most of the teeth were hanging by like a thread and I wouldnt let anyone go near them, but the dentist told my mom to try to get me to get those out. One molar I had was quite tighton the side and the dentist had to pull it. If the tooth is extremely loose I would try to coax her into getting it to come out. If its not really loose at all leave it but try to make it fun, ask her if its still loose and make her wiggle it alot, which will loosen it. Most of my adult teeth came in out of place because of my baby teeth not coming out.

I remember when I was little, I wouldn't let anyone try to pull my teeth either, so they would give me apples and bagels to eat...
