NWR..Cost of Rent?

NWR..Cost of Rent?

FH and I are looking for an apartment now in the northeastern Queens area. We are trying to figure out how much we should 'throw away' on rent.(we cant afford to buy until after the wedding due to my MASSIVE student loans ). Im sorry if this question is too personal, but for those of you who rent, about how much do you pay?

oh im from astoria

But yeah thats about the average price...My friend has been looking at apartments, she saw a one bedroom for $1200 but its in a great area and everything is brand new...She also saw a couple that were around that same price range, another was about $1000, i think even maybe $900.

Depends exactly what neighborhood in queens, some areas are alot less then you can have certain areas, and i know someone who pays $4000 a month its crazy

do a search on craigs list, you can get good deals on apartments....my friend had seen a 1 bedroom apartment in howard beach which is a nice area for $850, it was this older couple renting it out, infact she didnt take the apartment and this was just a week ago, hmmm wonder if its still available?

Or you can call a mortgage broker just to see what you can get, they have alot of great deals for young couples who are first time buyers, with very little down and they can do the payments which might be the same as renting each month. But be careful how they do this bc alot of times when they will do very low payments for the beginning, later on they will raise it by alot...but its always good to try and you never know.

Either way good luck...It can get annoying, but if you do alot of research and just be willing to go see place after place you can find what you are looking for.

when FH lived in astoria he had a 3 bedroom (he shared it with 2 friends) and they paid $900 each. Before FH lived in astoria he lived in bayside and he was paying $850/month but they definitely have raised the rent since then

Well don't die! You have the apt at your parents house for now and it'll give you plenty of time to build your bank account and hopefully buy something so you never have to rent.

We pay $900 for a 3BR in Forest Hills, BUT I've been living there since '97 and my rent only went up $200 in 10yrs.

You'd be surprised what you can afford when it really comes down to it....

We're not in Queens (W. Babylon), but we pay $1000 for 1Br, all utilities included.
