NWR:did you hear

Has anyone heard the story about the 17 girls in Mass. that made a pact to get pregnant. I'm listening to the story on the news and all they keep saying is how the school is responsible and how could the school not see this and what can the school do... Since when did we send our children to school to be raised? Shouldn't they be going to school to be educated and the parents should take care of raising the children... They say maybe it's because of movies like Knocked up which promote single parenting. Why do the parents never get the blame but the media and the school does.

i heard about this...seriously they said one of the girls got pregnant by a 24 year old homeless guy..it's really just sad that parents have no clue what their kids are doing. It's not the movies...a teenager should be able to distinguish a film from reality, but then again, it's EVERYWHERE and becoming more acceptable to be a single mom. Society in general has changed so much...

Exactly..and I love my job and feel that a huge part of it is teaching kids to make good choices and be well rounded, good, successful individuals but if it isn't being reinforced at home than our efforts in school are a waste of time!

Most parents want the schools to do because they dont know how to raise their own kids. I can't tell you how many parents complain to me about their kids not listening at home and ask what they should do. How the heck should I know? I'm 25... I dont have any kids!

I have not heard that. How old are these girls?? I don't watch the news or read the paper because of Summer school-I am so out of it. Did they really all get pregnant yet-fill me in.

that's true, it's always blamed on the schools & it's not right. parents are never forced to take any responsibility. unless the schools start checking everyone's notebooks or putting mic's with camera's everywhere they really have no way of knowing what the student's are planning.

Its a epidemic that needs to stop. Parents need to stop putting the blame on everyone else and look at themselves. My question is how dumb are those girls? When I was in h.s. all I was worried about was my sports and grades. These kids are going up to fast..Is the media the culprit..Partially yes but the sole responsibility relays on the parents. The problem now a days is that parents do not know how to be parents. Until they realize that they are not their children's friend it will continue to be a cycle.

or how about my favorite scenario: your kid was absent from class 50 times, rarely did homework, and did nothing but stare out the window and disrupt my class all year, but you're right, it is my fault he failed.

ITA! The parents are using school and the media as a scapegoat for their own failures. Sickening.
