NWR..Do you feel comfortable discussing religion with people you work with??

Ok there is someone I work with who is just plain obnoxious. Thinks they are the authority on EVERYTHING!! A few weeks ago this person started talking about how bad Catholic people are and how they are wrong and you need to stay away from them. Now this person was saying this to myself and 2 other people. Now I am Catholic but hate confrontation so I didn't say anything but I was upset...which I should have.

Today this person starts saying stuff to someone else I work with about their religion in a totally rude inappropriate way..saying that he was wrong...It was BAD!

oy thats tough. first that person is incredibly inconsiderate for talking badly about catholics. even if it wasn't catholics, its not right to put down another persons beliefs.

i don't really discuss religion where i work, b/c you never know what its okay to say. you know?

Generally speaking, I try to stay away from religion and politics - too many people have too many different opinions and get really upset when other people challenge them. But this person you work w/ is just being plain rude!! You can't tell other people that their religion is wrong. He/she sounds far from perfect to me. Maybe you should stay out of it - but if appropriate, you could talk to a supervisor about it and let him/her know that what this person is saying is offensive.

I want to stay out of it BUT they are so inappropriate and plus the fact offended me on a seperate occasion! I will say something if asked

someone at my job once said all jews move to florida and jews r cheap. i took offensive to that

If people ask me questions about my faith (AS LONG AS IT IS NOT IN MY CLASSROOM) I have no problem answering them. But when people get preachy, I get turned off. It has no place there - AT ALL! Thats why we have laws.

Though one of my students DID ask me a question about the part in the Chanukah Song when Adam Sandler said '...fine looking Jew' and he asked me if it was a bad word. I said it wasn't. 'Jew' is a noun - I am a JEW. 'Jewish' is an adjective - I am a JEWISH person. He was satisfied with my answer and we continued the day.

if this person worked at my company, they would have been fired & escorted out of the building ASAP!

Could be prompted could just come out of the freakin thin air! Oh and she also told me that I since I am getting married need to read the bible and learn about my role in marriage! The more I vent the more pissed I am that I didn;t say something!

Talking about religion stresses me out. I would NEVER put down any religion though. People are free to believe what they want. It is rude and ridiculous to ridicule someone else's faith.
