I just signed up for the EZPass since I've been driving to Staten Island a lot. Anyway, I just saw a violation tab on the website. Has anyone gotten a violation before? Is this for speeding or something? Does it track you? Maybe I'm just paranoid, lol. Also, does it automatically recharge? For example I put 25 bucks on it, but am driving to NH. If my trip is more than 25 does it automatically charge my credit card, are there any fees? Any info would be great. Thanks!!

my brother once got a violation b/c he went too fast through the toll, so my dad got a fine on his bill. He has his credit card on file with them and when his balance gets low, they charge a certain amount to his credit card.

i have never had a violation... it always keeps $25 on it, when you go below a certain amount it will charge your credit card to back to 25. there are no fees.

I've never gotten a violation, so I can't help there. If your CC # is registered it will be refilled automatically when it hits the level you set for it to be refilled - for me whenever my balance falls below $10, $25 is automatically added.
There is a $1 per month maintenance fee that they started charging about 6 months ago.

Re: NWR...EZPass Question PLEEASEEE
I think i got a violation once for speeding through the lane. I don't know if it was an actual 'Violation, ' but i got a warning letter in the mail that said they caught me speeding on whatever date and if it was done again, i would have to pay a fine or even get the ez pass taken away ( I would die and never drive anywhere there was a toll again )

Thanks for all your help ladies. I am just worried b/c I tend to speed. It kinda ***** that if you get an EZPass, it's kinda like Big Brother's watching. I guess I'll just have to drive slow around the tolls, lol.

They want you to drive slow through the actual toll booth so that they can pick up the tag. If you speed through the toll lane, then they can't pick up the tag and that's where the violation comes in.

also sometimes if it doesn't read your ezpass and you continue through the toll booth they'll send you a picture of you in your car with your license plate, asking you to pay for that toll. No biggie though, I think it happens all the time.
FH and I were driving down to the jersey shore last weekend and they have express ezpass where you don't have to slow down and he was so used to it that when he hit a normal ezpass lane he didn't slow down, so I'm sure he'll get something in the mail!

By using your credit, anytime the amount goes below $25, it will automatically recharge you $25.
As for the violation - it will show up on the EZPass statement with an explanation why. If the explanation isn't there - contact EZPass and ask them.
As for a fee - there is a monthly fee of $1 for each month that your account is open.

Re: NWR...EZPass Question PLEEASEEE
SOMETIMES - if you go through more than one ez-pass in a ride and the time it took you to get from the 1st to the 2nd is too short, they may ticket you saying that you were speeding. they can figure out it if the amount of time it took you to get from the 1st to the 2nd point was too short. i know two people to whom this has happened.

I had this happen to me a few weeks ago in Delaware. They usually send you a warning first (this was my first time).

What kind of crap is that. How obnoxious. It makes me want to cancel it already, lol. I guess I'll keep it until I have an issue. Only thing is I'm not going to be using it THAT often. I also didn't know that they started charging a monthly fee. Not that a dollar is a lot, lol, but still. Oh well I guess it's worth the convenience.

yeah - i'd say not to worry about, but just know that it does happen. i've had ez-pass for about 5/6 years now and i've never had a problem. i can't imagine having to wait on the CASH line!!! aaaahhhh! seriously - it's really great to have for speed and some savings.

Re: NWR...EZPass Question PLEEASEEE
I got a violation.fine because I put my pass in a different car and for some reason, the plates didnt match when they taped me going through a toll.....so they charged me the entire length of the NY thruway!!!
I constested and won though but it was such a hassle - ever since, I havent seen anything on the site about one pass for a specific car.

yeah - i also thought it was an urban myth, but it's not. i know two people that it's happened to. obviously two is not a lot being that there practically everyone i know is on ez-pass, but it's enough to know that it actually happens.
