It all depends on how long you want to stay up there--there are I believe three levels up there you can go on. You can either buy tickets on-line or right there at Rockefeller. Either way, you should be fine. It's really pretty up there and you should go to the top, which is through a set of stairs outside...it is windy though.

They are sometimes giving away $3 off coupons around the area too, so if you are in the city and haven't bought tickets yet you can keep an eye out.

if you're taking the train in, the LIRR has a package that includes tix to Top of the Rock...for me, it was $6 more than the train ticket alone...IMO, totally worth it! Its about $20/pp if you just buy tix there!

We took about 90 minutes. There was no line and we walked right in, but we just stayed up there for a while, pointed out all the buildings, snuggled to stay warm, etc.

its a shorter line if you already have tickets....

and I bought the combo tickets at the train station (from the little machine thingy). It was really easy to do - its under 'Manhattan Getaways' on the main screen.
