Are you sure that the 800 number does not verify whether or not you left amicably? That's the only thing I'd be worried about...if it only gives dates of employment and you are really getting treated like crap...then I'd pack up my desk, let them know at the end of the day I'm not coming back and have that be it.

sorry about your situation... i am not sure but i can tell you for what it's worth that one of the attorneys in my department left last week. he gave his notice on a thursday, his last day was tuesday. he already had another job. it completely f'ed all of us over, but they would never say that if anyone had called for a reference.

good luck

I could call and find out, but from what I got off our website, it's only to verify dates of employement, title and salary.

I say be the bigger person and give notice. Most places won't even make you work out that time but still have to pay you. If it's really that bad I would go to HR and complain of a hostile work environment. If you don't need the $$ and can just leave (I'm jealous of you ) then I wouldn't bother but if you want the job for at least a little while longer you shouldn't have to put up with the way you are being treated and they shouldn't be able to get away with that.

I thiiiiink places can only give a title, dates of employment and whether or not the person is eligible for rehire.

I can tell you that the 800 number - if it's The Work Number For Everyone - only verifies dates worked and position held. I check references all the time and know this for a fact.
While giving two weeks is the standard, if it's truely unbearable, no one in a future job will ever know the difference anyway.

Sorry you're going through this...As much as you cannot stand your boss, give the 2 week notice, you don't want to burn your bridges..hope everything works out

I've def had co-workers give one week or even day of notice (she waited until her bonus hit, moved it to an unlinked bank account and left).

If it's really unbearable, then just say 'i quit!' and leave.

however, if you quit you cannot collect unemployment, so maybe I would line up another job first (if you need the $$)?

um... if I didn't work in a SMALL office with only 3 other ppl I would ask if you and I worked together... lol
I go through the SAME thing, but the pay su cks.. and the girl before me up and quit as well... basically everything you describe is what I go through.

anyway- my suggestion to you- find something else first. Simply tell the new company that you know it is professional to give two weeks notice, but your current job would understand if you only gave one. It makes you look better with the new place.

Don't quit until you have something else lined up... its really hard to find a decent job right now. Also, wait until after the holidays, for a number of reasons- holiday bonus.. do you get one? gifts- can you afford them if you're unemployed? if you got a new job would you feel comfortable around the holidays at work, not really knowing anyone?... I know it sounds like a stupid thing, but thats what I think about.

Just relax... if you need to vent FM me, I have a feeling we have a lot in common.
