I walked across the street because I saw one of the many stray cats in my neighborhood poking around a bush...When I got to the driveway I realized it was a baby mallard duckling...SO cute. We are not sure what to do with it at this point..I've been on the internet to see if I could get a contact but because it is Memorial Day no one is around. I have two phone calls into two different places...Not just waiting to hear back from them. FH took pics on his phone...If I can I'll try to upload them and post...It is the cutest thing I have ever seen! (and so random since I live in Bellmore by a train station...not normal to find ducklings here!)
ETA: OK...got the pics...You girls are going to die when you see how cute he/she is!
UPDATE: A big thank you to Jessica (KiTTeN0819), another LIW bride, who offered her services last night. Mike and I drove our duckling, which we had named Lucky, out east to Jessica who is now giving him the proper care he deserves. She explained to me that the wildlife rescue organization she works for recently rescued 11 ducklings so our little guy will join them. This is a great thing since I learned from all of the reading yesterday that ducklings love companionship. I also want to thank all of the girls on LIW for your quick response and assistance in giving me information about foods, etc....You girls are so great and without LIW I wouldn't have been able to take care of Lucky so quickly. Thanks so much!!!

Re: NWR...I rescued a duckling today w/ pics
Hey there I have had many ducks and I also rescue them.. I had 6 of them at one time as pets and then rescued one and brought it back from FL ( It was their state duck but hat a hurt foot) IF you want to keep it you can feed it duck feed its like pellets..
Massapequa Pet Vet takes in wildlife at no cost to you they just as for a donation of any type can be as little as a dollar!! But I have brought many birds there that I have found < If you need more info please FM me.. It looks like a mallord duck though! THanks KIm

You can also feed it cracked corn they sell it in the pet stores usually.. But I know Massapequa Pet vet does not put them down. My Fiances cousin works there as a vet tech and has been there for3 years working there. they rehab them and then release it into the wild if it is able to, otherwise they have locations where they can be kept and fed by humans that is a safe place FM if you wnat more info!
