How terrible is it to quit a job without having another one lined up?
I like what I do, but I'm having issues with the boss. He's making me feel incompetent and insecure. It wasn't always like this. Its just been busier and we are both under a lot of stress. I feel like he's taking it out on me. I've talked to him about it before and it was better, but now its the same again. . .
Any advice? Should I suck it up and stay? I hate being a quitter....

Re: NWR....Job advice
My husband and I just went through this so I know how you feel. DH was being verbally abused and terribly treated on a daily basis and it was totally affecting him and changing him. He went from being the most happy and upbeat, positive person I know to really depressed and so anxious he couldn't sleep at night. It was so upsetting to see, and we decided it was best that he leave...even though he didn't have anything new lined up.
It was the best decision we ever made. He found a new job very quickly, is making quite a bit more $, and is happy as can be.
If you can afford it financially, I say you should leave Your work should not jeopardize your happiness. I am not a believer in quitting either, but after watching my husband go through this and see how much it truly affected, my mind has been changed.
Best of luck and lots of ! It will all work out..
ETA: Also consider whether you need your current job for future references. My DH did not, so that played a part in our decision as well.

Could it be that he is acting like that and you are feeling this way because it IS busier and more stressful?
I know making the decision to leave a job is hard...especially if you like what you do. I would ordinarily stay until I have another one lined up, but I do know some people who have left their jobs without another in lined up and have said that it was a great decision. If this is the route you want to take, you have to make sure that you'll be okay with leaving without the security of something else.

Can you talk to him and let him know he's doing the same thing again?

Re: NWR....Job advice
If this is not the first time he is doing this to you then I would just not tolerate it.
Since you already tried once to make things right I would go to your companies HR department and say something. If you like what you do why should you be the one to leave. I am sure its not just you he is doing this to. In my last job a manager in a different department would treat the women below him so rude and finally they all went to HR one by one and complained.
Good luck with everything!!

I felt the same way not to long ago.. and i really couldn't take it anymore, but i have to say it took me more then a month to find another job, and I know for $$ reasons i would not have made it if i gave in and quit as much as i couldn't deal with it, but if you can do it without it being hard DO IT! I know how much it S u c k s

Re: NWR....Job advice
There is no HR department....
Its just me and him. I do all the office stuff (a/r, a/p, sales, purchasing, shipping...etc. etc.)
I think his expectations are sometimes unreasonable. I have a lot on my plate and they all can't be done perfectly. He just makes me feel like I'm not doing a good job (which is a terrible feeling)....
Maybe its just better for me to move on and focus one 1 or 2 positions, instead of all of them.
I've been there for 3 years, and I've let a lot slide. For example if a holiday falls on a weekend he doesn't close the office on the observed day.
He gave me no days off after the wedding cause I had none left. . . .(even though I had 10 sick days, but he says sick days are used only if you are sick).
I'm frustrated. Part of me wants to quit, but part of me also feels like I may never get another job...
Thanks for letting me vent. Anymore advice will be greatly appreciated.

I say start looking!! You are doing so much at this job that it sounds like you are more than qualified to do a lot of different positions at different places. If you can swing it financially then def get out of there now, and if not then start looking for a new job asap. You can't stay at a job where someone treats you like that! It's just not right.
