NWR:Teachers- need Social Studies lesson plan help.
Hi, I teach a cluster position and I have about 5 weeks left with my K-2 classes.
In June, the curriculum focuses on looking at different kinds of communities.
Urban, suburban and rural. Any ideas for an activity?
I was thinking of extending this with my kindergarten classes and maybe looking at communities or homes around the world. I know that that is 3rd grade curriculum, but I thought we would have fun.
I was thinking of having them build something? I am not really sure.
Any thoughts?
Thanks...I appreciate all of those who have helped.

Might sound boring but you can do it as an introduction or an activity for a day - read a picture book aloud to them and have them compare and contrast their community to the one you are reading about - they can do a venn diagram - younger grades can use pictures instead of words.
I have a whole unit plan on communities if you're interested.

Thanks for the idea. That is a good idea because I need to stretch it out until the end of the year.
I did communities in the beginning of the year (according to the curriculum) with them and it is weird that we jump to the end of the year with this.
I would think they would of had it after our unit on their community.
I am trying to find books that will help me with this unit.
