Does anyone else suffer from these? I don't know what is causing them and I've been getting them frequently and it's hell having them. I always go to the doctor and get antibiotics at the very first sign but I'm sick of having to go. Could birth control cause these? I know people are going to say peeing after sex, which I try to do but don't every single time, drinking cranberry juice etc, but I'm so sick of being on antibioics for a week every couple of months and being stuck at work sitting in pain. Should I make an appt to see a uriologist? I'm assuming I need a referrel?

I got them pretty chronically about 3 years ago... it was one of the worst experiences of my life... that was before i found uristat... its like a pain killer... cranberry juice, cranberry pills, acidophilus...
ETA: as soon as you feel it coming on, you load up on everything... i havent had to go to the doc for it in a while because the other things help...
i dont know about your BCP causing them cause i havent been on BC in years so that def wasnt it for me... wearing underwear that isnt cotton can do it... just making sure you are constantly drinking water... even when you dont have a UTI...
going to the bathroom before/and or after sex...
i dont wear thongs anymore because of UTI's.

Re: NMW...UTI
I had a problem with this and my doctor said that 3 uti in six months needs a urology appt. AZO makes cranberry pills- I take those now and keep some cranberry juice in the house. W the juice check that it has a high juice percentage and not a 'cocktail' juice b/c then you aren't getting a lot of cranberry.
I get one every year or so. I used to get them frequently.. I did soooo much research when I was suffering from frequent UTIs and learned alot. Here is what I recommend:
1. If you take antibiotics, take the antibiotic 'macrobid.' It's mild and only works on your UTI. Something like amoxicillin is too strong for just a UTI and can cause yeast infections and even worse, antibiotic resistance. Macrobid only works on the UTI.
2. If you don't want to take antibiotics, take something called D-Mannose. You can order it online or at certain vitamin shoppe stores. It's a simple sugar and it works by sticking to the e-coli and dragging the e-coli out when you pee. I cured UTIs with d-mannose.
Are you getting them every time you have sex? If so, take a good dosage of D-Mannose right after sex. And peeing after is a good idea. HTH

Re: NMW...UTI
The other girls had some really good suggestions. Here are a couple I will add:
1)Make sure you're staying hydrated throughout the day, especially while you're at work. I had a stubborn streak of UTI's a few years ago and this was my best weapon against it. Once I started drinking a substantial amount of water, they stopped recurring.
2)I know it's counter-intuitive, but when you wipe after going to the bathroom, even after only going #1, make sure you wipe front to back so you're not forcing bacteria up your urethra.
3) Going to the urologist can't hurt... it depends on your insurance whether or not you need a referral. When I was covered under my parents, I could go to any specialist I wanted without a referral, so call your member services number on the back of your card and ask first. If you do go to the urologist, If you can, try to bring him a log of the approximate dates the infections occurred and what antibiotics you used to treat them.
Good luck and feel better!

Everything the other girls said I totally agree with. Also dont take bubble baths! The bubbles can give you a UTI. Feel better!
ETA: I also started taking 2 vitamin C's a day because the acidity in your urine apparently prevents a UTI. Not sure how true this is but I havent had one in a long time! So maybe its true......it wouldnt hurt to try.
