Maybe you could try The Hudson Hotel? I didn't block rooms there but just wanted to give a suggestion.

I was going to stay there the night after my wedding since we got engaged in their lounge but didn't want to have to make my way back through the traffic the next day. It's very 'chic' and its known for not having horribly expensive rates...HTH!!

What about the Tribeca Grand or Soho Grand? They're not super expensive hotels and they are both a bit 'past their prime' in terms of trendiness so maybe they're not too expensive. Both very pretty hotels
