any suggestions? it will be very small, like 20 people or less so it could even be a restaurant that doesnt necessarily have a seperate space but would accomodate a large table for us

Where in Manhattan are you looking?
Are you looking for something that's sort of chic and cool, or do you want somewhere where you can be a little loud (this would be the case with my RD...ha!)?

Carmine's - although can be loud - family style too Vento - on Hudson off of 14th Street Ruby Foo's Houston's Blue Smoke City Crab Angelo & Maxie's Bridewaters

Tavern on the Green is closing at the end of the year...
Some fun ideas may be: Quality Meats Any BR Guest Restaurants (Dos Caminos, Vento, Wildwood BBQ) Rosa Mexicana Japanais

try Tao ( pan Asian, great atmosphere) I had my B-day there, you can reserve the top floor, there is one big table, fits around 20 pp and you get privacy.
I would also suggest Asia de Cuba- great for groups, family style food. Atlantic Grill - great sea food Rayuella- yummy food Blue Water Grill- can never go wrong with that choice Perilla- one of my fav. Restaurants Beyoglu- awesome med. rest. in my neighborhood. We go there all the time and the food is always great Otto- one of Mario Batali's rest. Casual. Yummy pizza/ pasta Olives- Union Square in W hotel, incredible food If you don't mind a small restaurant : Barmache has super delicious food.
