Anyone know of any good (even if unusual) venues in NYC to help get me started on my search? I'm thinking of around 200 ppl. THANKS!

Re: NYC Venues
I actually work for an off premise catering company in Manhattan, not in sales and I wont tell you the company unless you want to know (FM me) . . . but there are lots.
Many of the hotels do really nice weddings - the W (there are 3 locations), Hudson.
Gotham Hall (near MSG on B'way).
Tappan Hill (not in NYC) is beautiful.
NY Botanical Gardens in the Bronx.
Brooklyn Botanical Gardens
Pier 60.
FM if you want!

I might shy away from Gustavinos . . . haven't heard great things about them since they stopped serving a la carte and went to banquets only.
Town(e?) Restaurant is nice, also.

How much are you looking to spend per plate, that can really help you narrow it down?

Cipriani is beautiful--my old company used to have our holiday parties there every year. I used to work in event planning and loved the St. Regis, the Pierre, and the Waldorf Astoria. My boss's daughter is getting married at Twenty Four Fifth next year--it looks beautiful though I've never been there...

Re: NYC Venues
Most of the places listed here so far start at around $180.....i'd really love to spend around $160-$170. Surprisingly Tavern on the Green is one of the cheapest places in the city!!!

Re: NYC Venues
I got married on the Yale Club and was very happy with it. Its not unusual at all but they have some really nice options, good food and reasonable prices.
I dont recommend Tavern even though its cheaper. Ive known many people who attended wedding there and all Ive heard are aweful things.
Tribeca Rooftop is beautiful and a full service option..although if you want a Saturday, its probabaly more than you want to spend. Same for Cipriani, Regis and a few of the others mentioned.
Bridgewaters is another great location if you want to stay downtown.

Re: NYC Venues
I've been to a wedding at the Americas Society on 68th and Park Avenue and it was beautiful; a wedding at St. John's the Divine near Columbia, where the reception was held in a hall on the the cathedral site and we are going next month to a wedding at The Roosevelt Hotel in midtown, which was recently renovated and is a beautiful site.
Hope this helps.
