FH is graduating tomorrow and I'm scared to death. He's assigned to freakin East New York --- luckily not the projects --- but it's suuuucks there.
Please, someone -- anyone -- with a FH or DH in the NYPD please tell me what the real deal is....
Is it as bad as I think it's going to be?

Re: NYPD blues
FH was NYPD and it wasn't so bad. He's in suffolk now and still the same just without the commute. FBIL is PO in Jamaica, Queens. I talk to FSIL about it all the time. Unfortunetly, they carry guns so obviously we're going to be nervous! You will get used to it. Best advice I can give is to find another wife/girlfriend that you can chat with about your feelings. It helped me! Feel free to FM me if needed!: hug:

Fh is at the 77th now. He was at the 75 before. He actually liked the 75 better than he does where he's at now. Don't worry, he will be fine! Fh was there for 6 months, and was then transferred.

Re: NYPD blues
well my fh is not, but my bro in law is(my sisters husband) and she shared your feelings exactly for a long time...it has been several years and she has gotten better...i imagine it is one of those scenarios where you have to have time to adjust and become used to the idea...i am sure it will happen...and until it does be supportive in spite of how you may be feeling...best of luck to you and your fh

Re: NYPD blues
Congrats to FH!!! I saw on the news today how crime in NYC has dropped overall, but some areas it has gone up and the commissioner talked about flooding those areas with more cops to help reduce the crime. I'm sure he will be okay!

Thank you to everyone who responded. This is his dream and I want to be happy for him but I am seriously scared. I love him so much and he's such a good person. I think I would go crazy if something happened to him. I'll be praying everyday -- for him and for all of them

Re: NYPD blues
My FH is on the job too. I'm lucky he is in a pretty nice area MIdtown South, but I have a cousin in the bronx, and two in not so great areas of Queens. It's natural that you will worry about him. However, I'm sure he will be fine. The job of course has its dangers, but they are trained and have one another to help each other and if this is what he loves than its great that you can support him in his decision. My FH loves being a PO. If you ever need to feel free to FM.

Re: NYPD blues
My FH is in the 103 (S. Jamaica) its a rough neighborhood but he loves it. Its not so bad once you get used to the idea that he has a gun and is doing everything you dont want him to be doing. My FH is former Military so this is kind of a walk in the park for me but i can completely understand your concern. The best advice i can give is that have him tell you everything when he comes home. It makes things easier when you can understand it with him. The other thing is that dont get scared when you see and hear something on TV when your FH is working.. it's not him. You will be contacted if anything happens before the news is aired. I dont know what else to say but if you need anything else feel free... good luck and best wishes!!!

Hey...
I know EXACTLY how you feel...my brother graduated July 2006 - he's been working in East New York (the 75) since then. He loves it -- it's a tough neighborhood but I honestly believe that the tougher the neighborhood, the better the cops - they all know that they have to watch eachothers backs that much more. Is you FH working that area on Impact? FM me if he's gonna be in the 75, ill give you my brother's name to give you FH - maybe he can show him the ropes :)

Re: NYPD blues
This thread was an oldie, but yup Its true....the harder the neighborhood I swear it seems the better the cop....they are forced to become the best at what they do.
