Oahu Recs?

DH and I are heading to Oahu since I am presenting at a conference in Honolulu.

DH will be with me 5 days prior to conference and then the next 5 days will be consumed (mainly) by the conference.

Any recs for MUST dos, restaurants, etc? (hotel is already booked)

We have OAHU REVEALED which is helpful but always appreciate personal recs. TIA.

You definitely have to climb diamond head and go to the north shore!! They are by far the most beautiful things on the island. When you drive to the north shore make sure you drive with your windows down and take in all of the fresh air (it will smell like pineapples too!!). This time of year is wonderful there!!! Enjoy!

When are you going? I am going to Oahu in May for a conference for a week and then going to Maui for a few days. We have to stay in the royal hawaiian for the convention. Still didn't decide on where we are staying in Maui.

Definitely get out of the city! The city's too much like NY. Head to the north shore, it's absolutely beautiful. Rent a car for the day. You can pretty much stop anywhere and take pictures or enjoy the beach. I just went in February and I loved it. Some places I recommend that you stop at are USS Arizona Memorial (go very early, there is a wait to go on the boat to the memorial), Swap meet (like a street fair where you can buy souvenirs for really cheap), Giovanni's shrimp truck, Matsumoto (shaved ices-- one of the best on the island), Leonard's for Portuguese donuts, turtle bay resort (sea turtles are there if you go early), Hanauma Bay for snorkeling, and the Polynesian cultural center. I say do diamond head at least once. I was a little disappointed b/c some reason I had a different view of what it would be in my head. We also went to the dole plantation but found out that they don't actually harvest pineapples anymore. They're imported from the Philippines! I also went horseback riding if you're into that.

Alan Wong is one of the best restaurants in the area. Definitely go there! They noticed my sister has a wheat allergy without us even telling them and they completely redid her dinner so she wouldn't get sick. The food was amazing too.

Don't forget to stop into the Honolulu Cookie company! They have samples of everything and they're quite yummy!

FM me in you need any more info!
