OBI going bye bye

Geez... one of my old make-out/smoke-out places will be permanently erased from history...

I cant beleive it is going down ive had great times there

Wow....I knew it would eventually happen but it's a reality now!

Remember the stupid bungee thing? I thought that was insane. And then other thing at the end of the pier? Ugh - the vomit machine I called it.

I went alot in 1992 and 1993 and I remember the smaller dance floor did alternative and 80's new wave music and that was always good. I closed the place down a few times! I stopped for a few years and then went a few more times in 1995/1996 but it was going downhill by then.

I remember one time I went and it was really quiet...at first you thought 'what is different' because you heard music but not as much talking. We realized that there was some sort of reunion for a school for the deaf that night! Not anything wrong with it - we laughed just because we couldn't figure out why it was so quiet! I think the owner's daughter was deaf? That's waht I was told.

But they used to charge you for a glass of water!!!!

And I hated that sign 'move out of NYS before it's too late' - I always wanted to add 'but drink my overpriced drinks before you go!' to the bottom of it!

ugh - those stupid 'move out of NY' bumper stickers - they were from OBI? I was never even there....

I remember seeing those stickers thinking - morons! You're obviously not leaving if you're driving all over LI!

I know it had to be around 98-99 because I was jetskiing there every weekend around 96-97.

Me too - Malibu rocked! I couldn't believe when it closed. I was there it's final night...

Teri...the Move out of NYS was a movement to vote against Cuomo in the gubernatorial elections...

I used FAKE ID to get into the OBI on College Nights. I was only 17 and you had to be 18 to get in. And I remember my friend and I used to chip in for gas because we had to have enough money for admission and a soda Oh, the days when $10 was all you needed to have a great time.....

thats such a shame.... The owner was a rockin guy!

Memories... Every sunday afternoon at the OBI. I loved that place. The owner now has an OBI down in the FL Keys. We were just walking around down there and found it. Mattherson (I think thats his name) just happened to be standing out front.
I looked at him and loked at the sign and said Hay arent you....
and he said Are you from LI?
and I said Yes I was at your club every week
He said come on in and have a drink on me!
So we did!
