Are double-breasted tuxedos appropriate for a wedding? My FH will only wear double breasted suits (he thinks they do a better job of camoflaging his middle) and I'm wondering if doublebreasted tuxedos are appropriate for weddings. I've never seen them at a wedding. Only at like formal New Year's eve parties, dinner dances etc. Help!

Re: Odd Question about Tuxedos
I only remember seeing one Tux at the store that was doublebreasted. It looks so heavy and big, like he's wrapped up for winter. I would think that a doublebreasted would actually accentuate the middle???? Maybe that's just me and I'd need to see a picture. The tux guy actaully said that the most flattering tux for a big middle is the one or two button, like the Ralph Lauren. But if that's was he's comfortable in, I see no reason he can't wear it.

Re: Odd Question about Tuxedos
I don't think I know what a double breasted tux looks like, let's see what I can find.....
Okay - here are some pics from Men's Warehouse. The first is a double breasted and the second is a single. My DH wore the three button Kenneth Cole which I guess is single breasted.
The sales person at Men's Warehouse said the more buttons the less flattering the suit is for large men. We had one bigger grromsman and he looked great in the single breasted three button.

Hey thanks so much! I like the first one a lot!

Re: Odd Question about Tuxedos
No problem - I'm glad I could help. Just FYI Men's Warehouse has a great website that lets you 'build a tux'. You can select the jacket, shirt, vest and color - it's a great way to get an idea about the tuxes you might like....

I think you can wear any tux for a wedding, its all about what he feels comfortable in,but a double breasted suit might make him look heavier

my husband and i agree with you. he really does not like the double-breasted blazer on any person. he feels it's very tacky and outdated. (he's making me type this word for word.)
personally, i've seen a double-breasted on a guy and it does seem to draw much much more attn to the belly. AND an added bonus, if the person is short it makes him look stocky, chunky, and so short it looks inadequate.
how about this, go to a mens warehouse (or something) and have him try on different blazer styles and take pictures of him in them. post them up or show them to friends. hopefully this will lead him to the right attire. good luck!

Re: Odd Question about Tuxedos
Double breasted was a lot more popular 10 years ago. It's not considered one of the 'in' styles right now. That's what several tuxedo places told us. And yes, it's true, the less buttons the slimmer you look. Double breasted will make him look larger.
Maybe have him go to the tux store and try on the different jackets.
