Office gossip -- listen to this... Long
Listen to how desperate these chicks in our central office are for gossip.
Every year we have an 'in-house' x-mas party (done in the office) and an 'out-house' x-mas party (where we all go out to a restaurant). Everyone is supposed to bring a dish to the in house party. This year, since DH and I work for the same CO and are now married, we decided to try and weasel out of making two dishes so on the signup sheet, I wrote 'see husband', trying to be funny.
Sure enough, within a week or so, I get an email from the head hen and she says -I quote:
I was reviewing the food list and noticed that you did not put down a dish. The only thing that is missing from the list is the Punch. Perhaps you can bring that. If you need a punch bowl we can always provide one. Please let me know it you can do it. If not please let me know which other dish you would like to bring.
Thank you
The Hen
I write back exactly this:
Our household is already providing a dish but if you insist, I will make the punch also. I'll take you up on the punch bowl. :)
(Note the smiley face, indicating I am joking/kidding/smiling whatever)
Well, in-house party day comes and, as it turns out, I wasn't coming to work because we had a death in the family...SO, no punch for them.
The day I got back to work I was hit up with an e-mail by another one of the bitties demanding to know whether or not I would be attending the out-house party. Being that this way the day after the Funeral, I was NOT into any Christmas parties so I said 'No, I don't think I'll be feeling up to it'.
Then, today was the out-house party and DH attends. The bitties gather round him and say, 'Sooo, Sandra didn't come because she is mad about the punch, right?'
DH was like 'OMG -- You women really have NOTHING better to talk about do you??? Do you realize that she just had a death in the family and that maybe she doesn't FEEL like partying because she is GRIEVING?? You can gossip about the PUNCH, but you this you just gloss over??!! Instead of sending your condolenscences to my WIFE, you gossip about PUNCH?!?!?!' He said they felt pretty stupid after that.
HOW OBLIVIOUS ARE THESE PEOPLE?? Seriously!! I can't wait till I see them myself!!!
What would YOU say to them??
