Official 08 married brides advice to future brides thread

Original post by nifheim

I remember reading the 07 version of this where anyone who got married can post a bit of advice to pass along to the girls getting married after them. I found this so useful so I wanted to start our own.

I realize this will grow as time moves on since most people get married in the late spring/summer but I figured us girls who all ready tied the knot can share.

(posting my advice next)

Here's a weird worry I have - the bathroom!! How did that workout for you girls? Did someone have to come?

I'll answer this one I guess- I had to use the bathroom (thank goodness it was a number one) and I had someone helping me- I was so embarrased but it worked out- the trick is if you have a large full gown you have the person hold it up and then you sit on the toilet backwards- yes backwards!! (Thanks Christina if you're reading this one since I know that you lurk on the site now )

Thank you all for the advice. The 08 brides are great you all are my support system. Even if I do not say much on the boards, I want to say thanks.

My advice is to surround yourself with supportive people throughout the planning process. Also no one knows what goes into planning unless they planned one themselves. So do not get mad when your single friends do not understand why certain things are stressing you out.

I think it depends on the dress too. I was able to go by myself since I didn't really have crinoline or anything. I just gathered the skirt to the front of me and did everything normally. Heather, you have a small A-line dress, so you should be able to go yourself too!

Re: Official 08 married brides advice to future brides thread

i have a few words of advice (notice how i didnt say wisdom) lol

i thought about what a lot of the 07 brides had said so when it came to my day, i had some advice already in my head

I went to sleep around 1AM (ceremony was at 730 pm)

i slept SOLID straight through 9 AM - my parents couldnt believe it
ate breakfast with family and headed over to the hotel at 11ish

i was VERY calm pretty much the WHOLE time
while getting hair and makeup done, waiting for flowers, etc.
After I got dressed and peeked out the hotel window, i saw DH's truck - that is when I started to freak a little; but only a little

I had been pretty calm the whole planning process so nothing unusual

what i did remember was:
1. when walking down the aisle, find a 'spot' or person to look at - this helped a lot when i saw some smiling faces as i walked in since this was the one thing i was most nervous about (the whole 'all eyes on me' thing)

2. in the middle of the reception; just take a deep breath and look around - at the room, the people, the flowers, etc. and see how beautifully everything you planned and worked on came together!

3. HAVE FUN!!

4. GO TO YOUR COCTAIL HOUR!!!
This was the best decision we made
we missed a little taking pics but only about 15 min.

I have to say people complain that once your married you leave the board - but i have to say once your married no one wants to be bothered with you much on the board IoI I don't mean that 100% but it seems like you build up your life around planning this wedding, you post, share, and kinda grow a bit attached on here. Your wedding is done - you post again and you start to see the less responses more and more. So you stop posting then you slowly stop reading and then your gone.

Honestly I kinda expect it but I do want to stay on here as long as possible until at least the next WOTY then move on to LIfamilies possibly. Only one person has been horrid to me and that person was smacked down for it on here by not just me but many people. So GIVE YOUR OPINIONS, get no love for them? Oh well - guess its better then disappearing.

pre wedding -- if you are unsure as to wether you should have someone at your wedding or in your bridal party etc listen to yourself...if you keep feeling like you shouldnt there are probaly good reasons.
talk to your vedors . dont ever be afraid to voice a concern or discuss an issue they arent mind readers and dont know you well enough to know everything you want or dont want. I was nervous with vendors not wanting to annoy them but in the end they were all wonderful .

Have a close friend or family who kn ows exactly how you want everything to happen and what pics you want etc ....I would def reccomed spending the money on a DOC to do this so a guest doesnt lose time / etc ...I would highly reccomend mine
http://www.aboveandbeyondli.com/
she made everything go perfectly was with me through hair and make up through getting us in the limo at the end of the night ....she does everything ,,,,Helped me in the bathroom...helped me change my shoes kept up with my lip gloss....she is absolutely the best!

During your ceremony ignore everyone around you pay 100% attention to your FH ...Alot of my favorite memories are of the looks on his face throught our ceremony

hold hands and hug as often as possible even if its 5 minutes get a few minutes alone to take in the night together...kiss often laugh alot and most of all rember you arent a hostess you are a bride you are entitled to enjoy ...dance talk eat drink and enjoy....all the stress now makes it all worth it that day...relax and remeber all the effort you put in ...to make it perfect and have faith in that....Do not stress that day relax enjoy and rember people are going to be there to help you ...try to do as little as possible your self !!!!!!!!!!!!!

cANT AGREE WITH THIS MORE..

This made me cry!!! FH is away for a week, coming back tomorrow night, and I'm missing him soooooo much!!! I read this, thought of that Men's Warehouse commerical 'While everyone's looking at you, you'll be looking at him,' and lost it. I'm going to be a blubbering idiot if I start getting teary during our ceremony!!!

Sleep in as late as you can on your day. Relax in the morning! And just take it all in. During the reception take a moment to just look around you and take it all in. And don't stress the small stuff!!

My dress was not a corset, so whenever I had to pee, I had DH come into the bridal suite and unzip me and I just took the dress off!

I was just thinking about this and at the chateau i have my own room.....and im just going to jump out of the dress then back in. instead of having a accident with people holding up the dress.
