Hi Ladies,

Any recommendations for a vendor that is familiar with African American skin and hair that will come to your hotel to do makeup and hair the day of the wedding?

well princessjen, i'mma teacher and as we are at the end of the road here i have a lot of free time in school..

i'm in school right now matter of fact.. i got the monogram done, but the actual aisle runner we're not gonna do till over the summer.. i wondered what i'd do with it afterwrds too but someone mentioned putting it in shadow boxes.. i might do that..

i need to look at std cards.. i guess..

I was going through a Martha Stewart bridal magazine and saw a number of invitations with the monogram. I guess I'll have to get cracking on mine.

I had so much fun picking out invites.
I miss planning my wedding

Please share any wisdom you have now that wedding is over. Hindsight is 20/20 so I'll take any guidance from anyone that has gone through this.

I have to agree with you about spending an arm and a leg on invites.
I spend 285 for 175 invites and I loved them.

I agree - only because it is paper - I spent about 325 on 150 invitations - I don't have a picture at the moment

glad to help. i am having an evening weeding and i would say that it is medium. i am inviting 200... i have a 150 min to meet. DJ's...i am in the same situation (HIP HOP, R&B, Reggae and Calypso) and still looking. i asked a friend to be my DJ (hoping for a break but no such luck). i am keeping him in my back pocket

what about ur wedding day?

We are having an evening wedding with about 100 people. I am excited. Are you using a wedding planner? I guess I may call Ultimate Sounds to get a quote. It doesn't hurt. I think most of these DJ sites come off a little cheesy but maybe it doesn't necessarily speak to the type of work they do.

i am not using a wedding planner. its just me my mom and some help from my MOH. the hall gives you a planner up until 2wks b4 the wedding. i left her an email 2 months ago and she still hasn't replied. whatever, i don't really need her like that. are you using a planner?

I concur. At first there were all these little things I was going to do (nice expensive invites, different placecards than the RH offers, aisle runner, etc.) then I looked at the price of real estate & added up all these small things. Between saving for a house for FH & I to live in & the small things no one else will notice besides me... my attitude made a drastic change.

Re: ***Official African American Brides Thread***

those invites are very nice.. i'm going to take a look at that place.. i worked today on my first DIY.. it's an engagement party invite. and uh.. it wasn't easy.. i should have pics by tomorrow..

my gf is doing my std's for me. i'm in the same boat princess jen. fh and i both own houses but we really really NEED a place of OUR own, instead of him moving into my house.. i'm just so opposed to that idea..

but we are going to keep the costs down.. if i can find or make inexpensive wedding invites then i can consider the slipper basket or crypacks..

Re: ***Official African American Brides Thread***

Do any of you have pictures of how you'll wear your hair on your day? I'm having the most difficult time deciding. My stylist suggested I choose my tiara first but I think I'd prefer to choose the tiara after I decide on the style. My dress is big so I think I need something sleek/chic but I don't want the traditional up-do.

I like this glamour ponytail and this one on Tyra. Check it out. Your thoughts?

I love both of these looks...especially Tyra's. They lok very elegant. It's a gorgeous look. I agree with you. I want to pick my hair style before I pic my tiara.

I don't have a planner but I may get a DOC. My mom doesn't have the energy to handle too much and 3 of my 4 BM's live out of town so I feel like I will need some help at the tail end of things. I have no desire to feel super stressed on my wedding day. Who is doing your makeup?
