Okay ladies, I love all of the LIW Girls, but I thought it was time that we have a thread dedicated to African American Brides, so that we could discuss wedding and non-wedding related issues that are significant and or relate to women of color. So to start the thread off, could everyone introduce themselves? I am Landra...

Hi ladies!
Just wanted to introduce myself - my name is Tee. I'm so thankful to have found this thread! Congratulations to all of you on your upcoming weddings and THANK YOU to you married ladies who still check in with advice and ideas.
Me and FH have been engaged since April. For many reasons we want to get married in late 09. We've only looked at one RH so far - and we weren't that impressed with it...but it was within our under $75 pp budget. I'm going to make some appointments with Westbury Manor and Douglaston Manor - have any of you had your weddings or been to any weddings there? I need some feedback on the service and food! I'm trying to stop from stressing out - but I just have this feeling that we are going to have to book a RH we don't like because of money.
TIA!

Welcome Tee!! I have been to Westbury Manor b4, & it is simply beautiful especially the grounds outside. They are over your $75pp budget though. Have you thought about a Thursday, Sunday, or off peak wedding? You then can come across really good pricing.

Welcome Tee!!
I agree w/ Kim, the more flexible you are w/ time of day, date, day of the week, time of year etc, the more deals you will find. I didn't want to spend a ton so I did mine on Memorial Day and it worked out very well in the $$ department.

congrats and welcome Tee!!! I also agree with the other ladies...try a thrusday night or friday, sunday wedding...or even a sat. afternoon. Also off peak season is better for the pockets.

Thanks ladies!
We're going to see Westbury Manor and Douglaston Manor on Saturday. I'm willing to get married on a Thursday night or a Saturday morning/afternoon. Any opinions on Douglaston Manor?
I'm also willing to take things out. We got the first RH we went to down to $68 from $75 because I asked them to cut down on some of the food during the cocktail hour.
I'm really hoping it works out...I'm getting more and more stressed that we won't find something that we like within our budget....like so many other brides we are paying for this ourselves - our parents are in no position to contribute financially. I NEVER thought I would be going through this. I don't want something over the top, just a nice classy place with good food and service to make our guests comfortable....SORRY FOR THE VENTING!!!
I REALLY appreciate the help and I will let all of you know how it goes on Saturday.

just remember that the price they give u is the base price & they add tax & gratuity to it, so $75pp is more like $90-$95pp, so u have to look for a base price in the $60 range which is going to be extremely hard to come by in LI.
FM spelldizzy, she got married @ WM on a thursday, but in the summer so u can somewhat get an idea of the pricing. I was quoted $100pp for a thursday & $130pp on saturday all in.

Try the Coral House in Baldwin or The Rivera in Massapequa.

Everything is pretty much done! Last minute details--STDs, Invitations, Officiant, a Broom (smile), and deciding whether or not to purchase a second dress!!! I was telling some of the ladies that my FH described his ideal wedding dress and it is nothing like what I picked! hahahaha
So I may get a fitted, sexy, strapless, satin number to wear for the final hour of our reception!

Hey ladies!!!
Still in the beginning stages of planning - i.e.: I HAVE NO RH YET...lol! Narrowing it down to two places right now: Westbury Manor and Surf Club in New Rochelle.
We hope to have a decision in the next couple of weeks. If its Westbury Manor it will be on a Thursday night, if its Surf Club we think we can afford the Saturday afternoon package. Both are great places (one garden, the other water).
Wish me luck! I'm hoping I grow up to be just like all of you soon...lol!

Hi ladies.. My name is Tanya. I've been looking for a thread like this. I need Hair help. Can anyone suggest a Good Beautician on long Island? I am in serious need of some help with this mess that I call hair.
