Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

Hi, I'm new to the thread here and looked at De Seversky a few weeks ago. Hoping you ladies can help me out. Looking at a saturday in July '07. I believe i'll have 150 people and would love to have them all in the ballroom with a dancefloor and band but think it's gonna be really tight.

Anyone plan on hosting their wedding European style? Thanks Ladies. Happy to be on the chat.

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

I'm not sure what you mean 'European' style, but I am having a mansion style wedding, not a sit down if that is what you mean.

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

Hi, it's not Mansion style. It's a sit down style where they do the ceremony on site, then have the cocktail hour. They then move all the guests into the greenhouse room and the room adjacent(not loving the look of that room, but haven't seen it set up yet) for Dinner for an hour and then the guests are escorted into the ballroom, greeted with Champagne, for dancing, etc. About 1/2 hour later, the desert room opens and stays open for the rest of the night. You ever hear of that or know of anyone who has had their wedding in this style before? Thanks!

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

I am having my reception at the de Seversky center and will be having the European style reception, although we will be having the ceremony at a local church.

I was a little nervous about the flow of the wedding with dinner and dancing being separate, but my day-of-coordinator recently did a European style wedding at the de Seversky Center and had wonderful things to say about the food, service and ambiance. She described the flow of the wedding much like you did, except she mentioned that dinner (first and main course) was 1.5 hours and that the cake was cut 1.5 hours before the end of the party and
dessert was served in the library. Again, she said that everything went very smoothly.

Hope this is helpful.

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

Hello ladies,
I want to sign off by letting everyone know all the wonderful and not so wonderful things about my wedding day because this thread has been so so helpful.

First of all the wedding was incredible, despite the few things that went wrong. All the guests, including grumpy family members, said it was the best wedding they ever went to. People cannot help but be blown away by the setting.

The day would not have gone smoothly had it not been for my DOC Francesca Leonardini who runs Dazzling Affairs. If you don't have a DOC yet, you MUST use her. She did top notch work and took care of everything and anything.

So here are the good things: The day was gorgeous, the grouds were beautiful. The cocktail hour had the best food. Aside from the 8 passed hor'd we had the seafood, pasta, and antipasto station. Some people thought it was a mansion style wedding because there was so much food. Everyone loved walking around and having the opportunity to talk and roam the grounds.

No for the bad things (and I only want to mention them because I don't want the same things to happen to anyone): We had 164 guests. So after cocktail hour, we proceeded to the garden room and the dining room for dinner. Dinner was supppsed to be from 8-9 and dancing in the ballroom from 9-12. Aside from DeSeversky having the room seating plan and entirely forgetting a table! the dinner was not served in a timely fashion. Most people did not get dinner until 9:30!!! And some people were served earlier, so we had some guests eating and then finished, while others hadn't been served. Needless to say, we only had 2 hours of dancing and that was a total bummer. Also, although we gave the maitre'd a huge tip, I have no idea what he actually did and I met him for a nanosecond. No one ever asked me (except my DOC) if I wanted any food or drinks.

But, it was still the most fabulous day and even though it is two weeks after the fact, I still have a pang of sadness that it is over.

Oh and last but not least, make sure you go over your final details with Debbie WAY in advance. When I wanted to finalize the final plans, she did not respond for days (and this was a week and a half before the wedding) and then I got an email saying she was on vacation! So I didn't get to finalize the final plans she sent me (because some things were incorrect and/or needed to be changed) 2 days before the wedding! An even though it was 2 days before the wedding, she WASN'T CALLING ME BACK!!!!And that was stressful because she told me I couldn't add the beer I wanted to. But we spoke to Scott who also works with her and he took care of it.

I hope I didn't terrify any of you, because it (for the most part) worked out in the end. Aside from the dinner being served late, it was one of the best days of my life!

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

One last thing, while the cocktail hour food was fantastic, the beef tenderloin, potted chicken hunters style, and salmon were just ok.

And don't be worried about the flow of the wedding if you are using different rooms. People thought it was really unique and different from standard catering hall styles. That was one aspect that made the wedding so awesome and stand out from others!!!!

Reposting to this thread.thanks prinses777!

hi to the deseversky brides!!

debbie sent me the vendor regulations. in it i see that vendors are not allowed to set up more than one hour before the wedding. is that normal? can they get it all done in that time?

also, it says that no candles will be allowed at all unless they are electrical. is this the case?

i'm going to see it next week, but i'm not sure about those 2 clauses.

mostly the candles b/c i don't really plan on having floral centerpieces, instead votives and hurricane candles.

tia!!!

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

We had candles everywhere, they just had to be in something...like a glass holder. Plus, the night of the wedding we were able to really do what we wanted and our maitre'd Patrick was very accomodating.

I know they change the regulations alot though. Make sure everything you want is in the contract before you sign it! (we wanted special beers so we had it added to the contract)

1 hour is plenty of time for vendors to set up.

Good luck!

Cmegali: I am glad to hear that you had an amazing wedding day. Congrats!!! Please post pics when you can I would love to see them. I also wanted to say thanks for your honesty and for letting us know about the dinner issue. I am really happy you said something. I really want dinner to take as little time as possible. I even have menus for each guest to speed up the process. I am having a band and I wanted there to be a lot of dance time. I thank you so much for your help because I am going to ask my DOC to stay on top of them with dinner.

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

No problem! I actually didn't know that DeSeversky printed out their own menus for the guests. They were nothing great , but it was nice. Sooo... even though you will have menus, it does not necessarily speed up the process. If I had to do it again, I would actually have the guests pick their entree on the wedding inviitation. Normally I don't like that, but now I know why people do it. But, if you already did your invites, you can have your DOC take care of stuff. Good luck! You guys are so lucky... I want to do it all over again!

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

I did not know that DeSeversky provided menus either. That places definitely leaves you in the dark about a lot of things. Thanks for letting me know this way I can let Debbie know we will be using our own. The last 2 weddings I went to had you choose your meal on your invite. I was not a big fan of it either but your right it does allow things to move more quickly.

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

Sorry for not giving the full wedding report...we've been so busy still that I haven't had time.

But just an overview:
Our day was also amazing...the weather could not have been more beautiful and I actually have zero complaints about DeSeversky on the day of my wedding. (Sigh of relieve I can hear from some of you!)

Patrick, our Maitre'd was fabulous, treated us like a King & Queen. All the food (except the Tilapia, which Debbie recommended...) was outstanding. We did have our ceremony on site and everything involving DeSeversky and staff was impeccable. We did cocktail hour immediately following the ceremony, then sit-down dinner for 110.

Now, my DJ - I had problems with. We asked for Jazz during dinner, and not only did he ignore my request and play cheesy love songs that I begged him not to - he starts things off with a BREAK-UP Song. He was a little arrogant and difficult to work with and has still not returned my CDs. FM me if you want to know his name.

Anyway, since all my photos were taken at DeSeversky - I'll share this link for anyone wanting to see photos of the place. Sorry, there are tons of photos, plenty you won't care to see, but I haven't had time to weed out and organize a slide show.

PAM! Thank you so much for you pictures, you looked amazing. So glad you had a great day!

I'm waiting for my proofs and I'll also do a mini-review.

I have to say I also had zero problems with DeSeversky on the day of, thankfully.

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

Hey Girls!!

I had no idea there were new posts too!

Pam: Your pictures are gorgeous! I'm so happy you had a nice day- and I'm so sorry about the DJ. Yikes. We're using him too.

JCam: So glad to hear your day went well. How was your HM?

I met with Debbie last week- she was very accomadating. The place looks great with the new chandelier and floors.

Things are coming together and I'm starting to get all sorts of nervous.

For all of you new girlies: absolutely hire a DOC. Mine is Laurie Savino, recommended to me by Pam, and I couldn't be happier with her.

Keep it up with the updates!

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

Laurie Savino did a fabulous job for me. Worth every penny and I do highly recommend her. A DOC at DeSeversky is a MUST in my opinion...and Laurie knows Debbie & Chef Rizzuto well.

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

Still upset about this so I have to share.

We had a guest that got sick in the bridal suite on the couch so we had to pay for clean up. No problem, but they charged us a ridiculous amount and we wanted to see why it was so much.

So we went to talk to Chef/GM Robert Rizzuto on Saturday and he was very rude to us, yelled at us and basically said our guests were disrespectful and it was a disgrace to him. He said in all his 20 years of doing this he has never seen a guest get sick at a wedding (I had to laugh at that one).

I think that was extremely uncalled for and has left me with such a bad taste for this place and we really did have such a nice wedding there, but dealing with them after the fact has been torture.

Sorry to be a downer.

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

I have a question for those of you who have already married. I met with my DOC last night and went over the details of our upcoming wedding. She had suggested to me prices for tips and who should be tipped. I was wondering if anyone would mind discussing with me who they tipped and how much. I don't mean to pry but I just would really like another opinion on the topic. Please FM if you can. Thanks so much!
