Well as im planning I thought It would be a great idea if we got ourselves togetehr to talk about issues facing Jewish brides.
I also thought it would be great to share ideas and vendors.
For example: 1. I was told to get suede black Kippot. They will stay on heads better, the black looks better in pix because there is NO reflection, and the groom looks better with a black kippot on insted of, lets say a sattin color kippot.
2. What are you doing for you chuppah?
3. I am using my brandfathers tallis to wrap us in during part of the ceremony. If that wasnt going to happen I would use it with the chuppah.
4. When do they normally play the horah? Is right after the first dance?
5. Any vendors yet for your Ketubah and Kippot?
6. I saw a great website that Im going to buy the glass and bag from. In general you have to be careful not to use a THICK glass or a lightbulb.
--A thick glass may not break, or g-d forbid cut the grrom! --A lightbulb can be very messy.
By buying this special glass we are going to make something from the shards.....a photoframe...something.
So I hope we can all help eachother.
EDIT!!!!
So I just went to the wedidng salon event at the Harvard Club. It was ok...but I got a brochure for ketubah!!!!
www.mpartworks.com
I also have a coupon code for 10% off. So ask and I will post!!!! I WILL be getting from here!!
i went to buy the glass to break at the wedding today and its $30! why is a piece of glass so expensive??? do i really need the special glass. can i just use a regular colored champagne glass from like crate and barrell?

Any glass will do. I bought the special breaking glass myself for about $20 on Ebay together with the pouch, but ended up using light bulbs instead (2 to fill the pouch properly). Rabbi strongly advised to do so...some glasses are very hard to break.

Thanks to Chrissi (my amazing DOC) there are also these traditions she made me aware of:
Krenzl, Blessing the Challah, Mitzvah Dances, Birkat Hamazon, and gladdening the bride
Most of these are religious customs:
Krenzi - If the bride is the last in her family to get married she and her sisters do this dance to honor theeir mother.
Blessing the Challah - aka Hamotzi - you do this before you eat dinner, it's the blessing on bread
Mtivah Dances - (sp = mitzvah dance) - The bride holds a long sash (or gartel) while a man holds the other end and dances before her. This usually happens if there is seperate dancing between men and women.
Birkat hamazon - This is a prayer said after dinner.
Gladdening the Bride - Guests circle the bride and praise her
Hope this helps!

question re:Ketubah
We are having a conservative rabbi marrying us in October, does the rabbi provide the ketubah or do we have to purchase our own?
Thanks

Re: ~~~~Official Jewish Bride thread~~~~~~~~~~~~~
you probably have to purchase your own but you should check with him regarding that and also any specific requirements he might have with respect to wording and what should be included if you order it from a 3rd party

This seems like a stupid question but have you guys ever seen a wishing well at a jewish bride's shower? My aunt is saying that its not a 'jewish' thing to ask for specific gifts for a wishing well so she doesn't want to do it...ever hear of this?

I've never heard that before.

Wow, really?
Okay, well my aunt is not doing a wishing well. I'm really not 'supposed' to be involved but they are bouncing ideas off of me and telling me what they want to do/don't want to do...I've asked them to stop, but whatever.
Thanks!

Re: ~~~~Official Jewish Bride thread~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm looking for more of traditional rabbi, not necessarily reform. Someone who can sing and also can combine the traditional aspects with a more personal service.
