Well as im planning I thought It would be a great idea if we got ourselves togetehr to talk about issues facing Jewish brides.
I also thought it would be great to share ideas and vendors.
For example: 1. I was told to get suede black Kippot. They will stay on heads better, the black looks better in pix because there is NO reflection, and the groom looks better with a black kippot on insted of, lets say a sattin color kippot.
2. What are you doing for you chuppah?
3. I am using my brandfathers tallis to wrap us in during part of the ceremony. If that wasnt going to happen I would use it with the chuppah.
4. When do they normally play the horah? Is right after the first dance?
5. Any vendors yet for your Ketubah and Kippot?
6. I saw a great website that Im going to buy the glass and bag from. In general you have to be careful not to use a THICK glass or a lightbulb.
--A thick glass may not break, or g-d forbid cut the grrom! --A lightbulb can be very messy.
By buying this special glass we are going to make something from the shards.....a photoframe...something.
So I hope we can all help eachother.
EDIT!!!!
So I just went to the wedidng salon event at the Harvard Club. It was ok...but I got a brochure for ketubah!!!!
www.mpartworks.com
I also have a coupon code for 10% off. So ask and I will post!!!! I WILL be getting from here!!

I got the glass to break (with pouch) from amazon. It looks really pretty online, I hope it's as nice in person. I also like that it's blue so I can use it for my 'something blue'
As for the chuppah, i'm using Woodbury Country Club's gazebo. If it rains, the florist will bring one for me (and charge me for $400 extra).
The Ketubah is much cheaper in Israel. A friend asked about personalized hand-written Ketubah's at her synagogue and they quoted her $1200 for it. In Israel, you can get one for about half that price.
I'm still looking for Rabbi's ... any suggestions would be very much welcomed.
Hey M! Congrats on the engagement! You are moving quickly girl!!! (BTW It's Daria (Yury's wife) - Marinos' friends).
We loved our Rabbi and so did our families. He is in Queens and very modern. Let me know if you want the info.

I'll take any rabbi suggestions that you have ... he just has to be willing to do the ceremony outside of his own synagogue :)

hi ladies....quick question. on your invites since the ceremony and reception are in the same place, is anyone putting something like this on the bottom of the invite?
Reception immediately following
I have abunch of non Jewish friends so I dont know if they realize that the reception is right afterwards. Let me know...also, is anyone doing FAVORS? I don;t think a lot of Jewish people do favors and we werent planning on it. Thoughts?

On my invites I put 'dinner and dancing to follow' and I did favors but thats a very personal choice. Most Jewish I've been to didn't have favors.

For the jewish weddings I've been to, the couple either makes a donation or have the candy/goodies cart on the way out of the venue. We are doing a donation but I'm not sure if we are going to advertise on table or not.

We decided that we wanted the DJ to play the hora after our first dance.
We did do favors-bottles of wine- but you're right most Jewish weddings don't have favors.
Also for the glass my husband and I at the time looked around the local 99 cent stores- they had a wine style glass that was thin enough for him to break easily. We then kept the broken glass and then went to a local Judaicia store that had the glass artistically put into an acrylic cube.. it has our names and wedding date on it and I love it. It's the best thing one can do.. and there are many styles to choose from.

You can also put the broken glass shards in your Mezzuzah. We're getting a pretty blue glass, and a clear mezzuzah just so you can see the pieces.

I think a lot of it also depends on the culture. For instance, I'm Russian Jewish and I've been to around 15 Russian Jewish weddings and almost never got a favor. However, those wedding that were more Americanized all did favors so it really depends....

Question....are any Jewish girls doing card boxes? I've never really thought about it or seen that at a jewish wedding, I feel like I always give the card to a the bride's or groom's parents, or even the groom.

We are doing favors (sandalwood fans for the ceremony which will be outside and buckeye candies since FH is from Ohio) and we are not having a card box.
If anyone is interested, I just booked our Rabbi and we absolutely love her...Rabbi Jo David, she does interfaith too

Re: ~~~~Official Jewish Bride thread~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Things Jews need to Buy: ==================== -- Ketubah (order it only after the rabbi approves of the text itself) -- Glass to break (make sure it's thin enough to break, or use a light bulb) -- Kippah's / Yarmulke's (order black suede, order one per male guest you have, give or take)
Jewish traditions and whatnot (all optional) ================================== -- dance the hora (can be before or after first dance) -- Mezinke (to honor the parents whose last child is getting married) -- Bedukah (groom 'checks' that you're really the correct person to marry ... this is pre-ceremony obviously) -- mikveh (bride purifies herself the day before the wedding)
Am I missing anything?

Thanks to Chrissi (my amazing DOC) there are also these traditions she made me aware of:
Krenzl, Blessing the Challah, Mitzvah Dances, Birkat Hamazon, and gladdening the bride

I've seen the seven circles done at more conservative weddings but not doing it at mine....
