Well as im planning I thought It would be a great idea if we got ourselves togetehr to talk about issues facing Jewish brides.
I also thought it would be great to share ideas and vendors.
For example: 1. I was told to get suede black Kippot. They will stay on heads better, the black looks better in pix because there is NO reflection, and the groom looks better with a black kippot on insted of, lets say a sattin color kippot.
2. What are you doing for you chuppah?
3. I am using my brandfathers tallis to wrap us in during part of the ceremony. If that wasnt going to happen I would use it with the chuppah.
4. When do they normally play the horah? Is right after the first dance?
5. Any vendors yet for your Ketubah and Kippot?
6. I saw a great website that Im going to buy the glass and bag from. In general you have to be careful not to use a THICK glass or a lightbulb.
--A thick glass may not break, or g-d forbid cut the grrom! --A lightbulb can be very messy.
By buying this special glass we are going to make something from the shards.....a photoframe...something.
So I hope we can all help eachother.
EDIT!!!!
So I just went to the wedidng salon event at the Harvard Club. It was ok...but I got a brochure for ketubah!!!!
www.mpartworks.com
I also have a coupon code for 10% off. So ask and I will post!!!! I WILL be getting from here!!

Just an FYI - Yussel's place is in Merrick. That's where I got my ketubah from.

Re: ~~~~Official Jewish Bride thread~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was a Jewish bride in 2006. My husband was Roman Catholic, and we just had a non-religious, justice of the peace ceremony and reception (except the DJ did hava negila I think).
But then my husband converted, and we had a Jewish-jewish wedding this past Jan 2009! It was fun. Here are some pics. (Our daughter was already 1.)
(I made it sound simple, but I assure you, the past few years were wrought with heartache!)
Mahzel tov everyone! If anyone has any q's abt my experience or my wedding, please FM me.
EDIT: Regarding the Jewish wedding, please note that believe it or not we planned the whole thing in 24 hours. We wanted to do it right after he converted, and we didn't know he'd convert until 24 hours before it happened!

Im having an interfaith wedding. Im cathoilic and hes jewish but we're raising the kids jewish. do we still get to have a ketubah even though im not jewish? I don't know if Im suppose to be looking for one or not haha. I need help ladies! What things should I be looking into for this wedding.
Is there a rabbi marrying you? That's who you have to ask.
We're having a reverend and a rabbi. FH isnt very religious and has never been to a wedding so he has no idea what we are suppose to be doing or what things to buy for the wedding. haha. his parents were also interfaith.

Hi ladies,
So I also need a rabbi for 5/11. I contacted woobury jewish center but they may be too religious. My FH is jewish but not religious at all but he likes the jewish ceremony. I recently went to a wedding and the ceremony was amazing. The rabbi and his assistant or who ever he was were singing 90% of the time and it was beautiful. So if anyone knows any rabbis or any that have great voices pass the info to me :o)

Hi! I'm bumping this up and also I have questions!
First- did any of the Jewish brides (or are any of the Jewish brides who aren't married yet) use a wedding planner? I definitely feel I need one but haven't met anyone yet that I really feel is totally comfortable coordinating a Jewish wedding.
Next- rabbi recommendations? I'm not from NY and the rabbi at the temple FH and family belong to we don't like at all. We are conservative, so a conservative rabbi is best.
I saw a lot of posts about chuppah and breaking the glass...I'm really lucky and my mom needlepointed both the chuppah banner and the glass bag for my brother's wedding so I will be using those. Also, my mom has a hook up for kippot, I don't know it off the top of my head but if anyone wants more info FM me and I'll ask her.
It's great to have this post here because I'm the first of my Jewish friends to be getting married in NY!
Last question for now - did anyone do a 'kosher style' wedding? Glatt kosher is sooo expensive and we keep kosher style in our daily lives ( don't mix milk and meat, no shellfish or pork, that sort of thing). If anyone did, what were your experiences with your caterers or RH being on top of and understanding about that?
Ok I think for now the wedding planner and kosher style are my only questions, but as I think of more, which I will, I'll bump this thread up again!
Mazel Tov to everyone!!!

Be careful with a regular glass. It might be to thick to break!!
How funny if FH could not break the glass!!! Maybe we should get two regular glasses and practice on one before the actual day.
I have a friend who had to stomp 5 times before he could break it!! It's a pretty funny wedding story to have!!!

I did not have a wedding planner but I felt comfortable enough having been to many Jewish weddings in my lifetime.
Have you booked your hall yet? If not you should look into Morrell Caterors. Their halls are amazing and there food is top of the line. They do both kosher style and glatt kosher. Also, the Royalton has kosher options as well.

Re: ~~~~Official Jewish Bride thread~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm having a glatt kosher wedding, but when FH and I were first looking into halls we were considering doing kosher style because yes, glatt kosher is ridiculously expensive.
Every single RH I looked at in NYC and Long Island was willing to do kosher style and had done many many kosher style weddings. I don't think you should any problem finding an RH that does do kosher style and is very familiar with it. Also, a lot of RH's suggested that we could do kosher style and actually use kosher meat, so if you have family that only eats kosher meat, but wouldn't mind how it was cooked you can do that.

Hi--I am not using a wedding planning but I have 2 friends that used them for Jewish weddings in New York. I can find out the name.
I have a conservative rabbi that is doing my wedding. I can FM you details.
I second Morrell Caterers! We looked at them but have already had two weddings at Beth Torah (amazing) and since FH had his Bar Mitzvah at Woodbury Jewish Center (also amazing) 18 years ago, we decided we would take a pass!

Re: ~~~~Official Jewish Bride thread~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I got the glass to break (with pouch) from amazon. It looks really pretty online, I hope it's as nice in person. I also like that it's blue so I can use it for my 'something blue'
As for the chuppah, i'm using Woodbury Country Club's gazebo. If it rains, the florist will bring one for me (and charge me for $400 extra).
The Ketubah is much cheaper in Israel. A friend asked about personalized hand-written Ketubah's at her synagogue and they quoted her $1200 for it. In Israel, you can get one for about half that price.
I'm still looking for Rabbi's ... any suggestions would be very much welcomed.

Maybe try a judaica store and see if they have any plain options?
