Re: **********Official Non-Fondant wedding cakes******************

no fondant to me - both bakeries i had tried tasted like playdo in my mouth. Love what you can do with it but just rather taste good.

I marked this up and botched the color of the green so ignore that. It will have clovers on it with off white buttercream and scrolls and green ribbon that matches the girls if they can find it if not no ribbon and decorated iwth fresh flowers (no buttercream flowers)

Great Thread! My RH includes the cake and does not do fondant so Its great to look at some of the ideas. It seems like most magazine pictures are fondant cakes

Fondant is really big these days. I just never liked it and as someone earlier said it tasted like play-do to me also...everytime I had it.

Re: **********Official Non-Fondant wedding cakes******************

i am a buttercream girl!!

when i was younger, this bakery near my house, always did cakes as fondant.. and it tasted ok, but i used love the 'fluffy' cakes as i called them back then..

for certain looks, you have to use fondant and there are bakers there that make it soo yummy.. i was never an icing person anyway, i just dig right into the good stuff..

Re: **********Official Non-Fondant wedding cakes******************

there are some bakers who can use buttercream and you would think its fondant, they can make it pretty smooth. Depending on the design you want though, the buttercream can be made to look the same. Check out the bakeries website or go there and look at pics of their cakes to get an idea.

I think this is a non-fondant cake, but even if it isn't it could easily be made without fondant

Back to the OP.....let's post some pics of non-fonant cakes for us anti-fondant ladies out there lol

This is a VERY traditional looking cake, that can be updated with different colored flowers.......

This one is really pretty too....very white though....

sorry for answering your post since i saw nobody was posting, thought id at least respond since nobody else really did and i was sticking to the OP topic, it was about cakes lol

Don't be....I know sometimes a post can go onto page 2 or 3 and noone will see it.....I just really want to pick a cake once and for all and need ideas lol Why does there have to be so many different choices?

Re: **********Official Non-Fondant wedding cakes******************

I personally do not like fondant at all....i've had it several times from several places and bakeries (surprisingly enough, most are very highly reccommended) and it just doesn't do it for me. I'm not a big icing person regardless, but I just don't like it (sorry girls).

On that note, for our cake we are doing a 'smooth' finish. It's reg. icing but they make it all nice and smooth, and it literally looks like fondant.

BTW...it will be:

cream cheese icing, red velvet cake with a layer of rasp. jam.......it is to die for!!!!!!!!

It looks like this, but instead of the crystals and flowers, it will be white starfish

Re: **********Official Non-Fondant wedding cakes******************

ours was buttercream frosting. and like denise said, bakers can make it really smooth so that it almost has that fondant look...
