Officiant

Officiant

We were originally going to have a friend officiate our ceremony. But recently have decided to have a professional take care of things!

Now the problem is that we arent' religious and have no idea where to look for an officiant. We're not opposed to a priest, as we are both Catholic and it would probably please certain family members if a priest was present.

Second question....if we use a priest but don't get married in a church do we have to go through pre-cana?

thanks!!

Re: Officiant

there are a few priests or reverends who are 'vendors' on here lol. I find that funny, but hey - it's useful!

ALso, maybe you could try 'cold calling' churches - to see if the priest will come to you. And I *think* you would have to do pre cana bc it is a Catholic requirements. (it's not that bad! )

If you are both Catholic, a priest will not marry you outside the church. They only do that if one of you is not Catholic because they feel they cannot force a non-Catholic to get married in a Catholic church. However, I hate to say this, but sometimes money talks and if you really want a priest, there may be one somewhere who would do it outside the church for the right $$ amount. I just don't know of any offhand. GL!

Forgot to add that my sister's husband is Jewish, they got married at the catering hall by a priest and a rabbi & at first the priest said they had to do pre-cana. But he was a young priest, kind of cool, so later on, he just gave them the pre-cana booklet and told them to read it & discuss it with each other, then with him & he would waive the requirement. But I don't know if that's common.
