Officiant Help

We have this question going in the 2016 brides group, but I wanted to see if anyone who is already married or is getting married that used a friend as an officiant who was ordained online? Are online certifications recognized by Nassau or Suffolk County? Or will I now have to find a new officiant and not have my uncle officiate our wedding?

Officiant Help

I have a friend who I wanted to use to do our wedding shes from NH but Suffolk county wouldn't take her because shes gotten certified online through a group called Universal life and apparently Suffolk county doesn't allow universal life to do the ceremony.

Oh no really?! I think Universal Life Church might be where my uncle got his certification from, and on their website it said Suffolk County should take it. I'll have to get all the information and call the town clerk.

Officiant Help

My friend got married using someone ordained by them and so am I. Our friend contacted the people there and they said it should be fine. NYC is the only place I saw where you have to pay an extra like $15.

Officiant Help

I called the Town hall and some other place in Suffolk County and then spoke with our friend who was going to do it and she looked up the rules when I sent it over and they told her it was a no I was so sad would have saved us money and been much more sentimental to me.

Re: Officiant Help

What I think I might do - is get our license signed by someone at City Hall prior to the wedding (which we would technically be married but i won't count it) and then have our friend still perform the service the day of our wedding.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea. I'm going to gather all the information from my uncle and call the town of Brookhaven to see what they say. My brother getting married in Florida was so easy he didn't have to do anything.

Officiant Help

I saw someone ask this question on a Facebook group a few weeks ago. Her research saw that it's legal but doesn't always hold up in court! I was thinking of just paying for a friend to get ordained but decided not to after reading that. I was also thinking of going to city hall and getting it all done prior to the wedding and then just have someone do the speaking at the wedding. We aren't affiliated with a church or anything so it seemed like the best idea for us. But I found an officiant that I really liked after speaking to her and that's what we think we're going to do now.

Could you send me a quote you got for the officiant and what officiant you're using?
