So I asked the rabbi who's conducting our ceremony about a fee, and he said that he doesn't have a set amount, and doesn't feel comfortable asking for a specific number. But he said most couples give between $750-$1800... I've heard of officiant's fees ranging, maybe with the average being $600. Just wondering what you're giving yours or what you think you'd give if you had the choice. We did meet with him about three times in the last year or so, though it was pretty much just discussing the ceremony, no counseling or anything like that.

Re: Officiant's fee?
Ours is either 300 or 350...i think the average tends to be around 400.
To say, I don't ask for a certain amount, but most people give $XXX is in fact giving you a number...and that is double talk. not very nice.

Re: Officiant's fee?
You need to find out if the 'officiant' fee he is asking about is also for the temple fee too. I was told that normally the fee that goes to your officiant is part of your fee to the site.
We paid the entire fee to our church, $500, then paid $200 to our priest. Our priest was an OOT friend that agreed to come to LI for the ceremony from Westchester.

Re: Officiant's fee?
still crazy...i'd look into someone else...as much as LI brides get ripped off, your officiant shouldn't be one of the ones taking total advantage of your wallet!!

I would rather pay another Rabbi for transportation than what this one wants. that's CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!! if you're not getting married in a Synagogue (we got married at the hall), the ceremony is 20 minutes! that means he would be charging you $100 a minute

Well, WE weren't planning on paying that! I agree that it's a lot of money to pay for a 20 minute ceremony, but hey, if you have millions and you're religious, you probably don't think of it in those terms.

I don't think he's taking advantage of us -- he's telling us to pay what we want and just gave us an idea of what he's received in the past (and the high amount didn't shock me because of where he's located, but that doesn't mean he expects that from us). I just wanted to get an idea of what, on average, other brides are paying their officiants. I'm definitely not getting a new one a week before the wedding!

Re: Officiant's fee?
My priest said the same thing. He didn't give a price, but he did ask me to remember how much I am paying for my wedding and that it should be in line with what my vendors are charging. I will probably give them 500. There is no way I am giving as much as even my cheapest vendor is costing me!
