do you really have to tip the maitre d or bridal attendant so much money?? i'm looking over threads in the past and i don't know how fh and i will afford all these tips!! some of these maitre d's are getting tipped like 800 bucks... we thought we'd be tipping everyone around 100 but now that would be really cheap... does anyone else think that the amount is crazy??

The way I feel is you tip what you can afford and on the service that you get. Just because other people are tipping 800.00 doesnt mean you have to.

So do I, if I were to tip the Maitre D $3-$4 per person I would have to give him $1400 for 350 guests and I do not think I would be able to give that much money. I mean if it's in your budget and you can give that much, that's great but not everyone can. it's really up to you and your budgeting.
I do think $100 is not enough because they do a lot of work for you.

I am only tipping what I can afford. If we get to the day and I realize we are tight with money hate to say it but tips are going to be the last on my list.

now i def think 100 isn't enough... i guess we just never really thought about it and just assumed all of our tips would be that way but then i was thinking more and more about it after reading past threads. i just don't know how we're going to afford these tips.

Re: oh boy... tipping...
when booking the RH my dad said he didn't want to have to worry about tips the day of the wedding. so the hall included all the tips in our contract.
so according to our contract the Matri D will receive $450. (comes to $4.09 pp)
& when we where at the food tasting we confirmed that the service charge on our contract is the tip for everyone else at the hall. that's $2,178.00, which is taxed. (coat check, wait staff, valet parking, bridal attendant, etc.)

Re: oh boy... tipping...
fh and i just looked over our paperwork for the rh and it says 20% gratuity is included... does that mean tips are covered and we don't have to do them on the wedding day? i'm totally stressing over this now.

no like christine2010 said, the gratuity usually is supposed to be for the rest of the staff- wait staff, coat check, etc. sometimes it includes valet parkers as well. it does not include the maitred and in some places it doesnt include the bridal attendant.

Re: oh boy... tipping...
Our hall told us to give our Matre'D 2-3bux per person.. so that will prob come out to around $1,000-$1,5000 for us.
I don't think $100 is enough, because the Matre'D is basically following you around and serving your every need for hours on end.

Re: oh boy... tipping...
I think unfortunately it is the norm to tip about $3-5/pp for the maitre'd.
I think you could prob get away with like $2.50/pp if finances are tight, especially if you have a large guest list.
