OH Hell to the NO!!

OH Hell to the NO!!

FH just informed me that he will be given an international blackberry to take on our HM.

I told him OH HEELLLLLL NO! And that his company better get insurance on this phone, b/c I have a feeling that it may get lost. hahaha

Seriously though..
I already deal with him being a work-a-holic on a daily basis working 9-8 M-F along with a 2nd job on weekends. Do I really need to put up with him 'working' on our HM? AHHHHH!!

Thoughts ladies?

does he really and truly have to do that? can the company really force him to work on vacation...espeically his hm. i mean unless he signed something saying he would when he signed on for the job, i would flat out say, definately not. that is not right. is he supporting the fact that he shouldnt be doing this. did he say he would tell his job, no way!

Oh snap!!!! How rude of his job!!! FOr serious!!!! He needs to sit down and have a talk with them!

Re: OH Hell to the NO!!

he's nervous they'll fire him or something. or think negatively about him despite being with them for years. He also is nervous everything is going to go to hell while he's gone.

I know he wont be on the phone 24/7, but the fact that he will be checking it and thinking about work, and helping them out pisses me off.

Is it just for emergencies? I have to say, I am a bit worried about not having access to my email for nearly 3 weeks. I am afraid of coming back to 4,000 emails and a major disaster. It's gonna kill me not to check

i'd be okay with it if it is for ABSOLUTE emergencies only.

Re: OH Hell to the NO!!

He's a controller for a mortgage company. (does accounting stuff and works with the CFO.) not for nothing, but what 'emergencies' can arise???? esp something that no one else there can handle?

(don't take me the wrong way, i'm not being mean and saying that what he does isn't important. i just really don't know the mortgage/finance industry lol)

he's just a perfectionist when it comes to work. and is a workaholic and can't say no to his boss. He doesn't understand that his bosses know he has a life outside of work. and that they do to!! we all do! we dont live to work, we work to live!!!!! then he always gives me 'u dont understand. you're industry is much different and more stable'

blah blah blah

Oh wow, the nerve of his company! I'd be pretty pissed off too. If it was an extreme emergency, wouldn't they just call his regular cell phone? How many times are they planning on calling him where they need to give him a company paid phone? It makes him sound too available for what co-workers may deem to be 'top priority' issues... most likely something petty. FH deals with that kind of crap all the time.

If he's absolutely going to carry it with him, he should really emphasize to his job that it's for extreme emergencies only.

Yeah the thing would magically find it's way under a car tire, or forgotton on the luggage belt, dropped in the sink.... who wants to deal with that on their HM?!?!

Re: OH Hell to the NO!!

Unfortunately I understand this, and have always had to bring my blackberry away with me. Even if it was just to check emails and then delegate when necessary...so happy I am not working anymore!!!

I agree with the girls though. Let him tell everyone that it is for EXTREME emergencies only...

maybe he can take the phone wit him but leave it off. dh brought his phone with him but we just called our parents when we got there and left it off the entire time.

no need for him to have a work phone with him

Maybe the new-internationally-working-phone will accidentally slip into the water? hmmmmmmm????

I'd be upset....work doesn't belong on a honeymoon!

Re: OH Hell to the NO!!

He brought it away with us on our cruise in october. He was checking his work emails and repliying/answering questions/delegating, every few hours and it upset me for the simple fact that WERE ON VACATION! Like the purpose of a vaca is to get away from the stress and relax!

I said that the phone will get sacrificed in a volcano. My MOH said to leave it out on the balcony next to a banana and maybe a monkey will come and take it

He thinks I'M being unreasonable!!

hope for the best !

As a Senior Accountant who works directly for the Controller, I can understand the 'emergency' side of things. Not going to lie, on our HM we both checked our work emails and called in every three days or so. I left during year-end, which is the worst possible time of year to leave in the finance world. And DH was in the middle of releasing a new product. I guess we are workaholics too....but I totally understand where you are coming from and if he does bring it, it shouldn't get in the way

Re: OH Hell to the NO!!

I kind of understand.

FH works in international shipping, running a department of like 10 guys, and he needs to check in at night and on weekends.

However...he keeps it to a minimum. Checks it ONCE a night when he's with me, usually waits until I'm getting ready for bed and such, and leaves it at that. Unless there's a huge emergency, the BB is away until the morning.

He's going to be starting with his dad's company after the wedding and since we're going to be waiting until September for the HM, I do expect him to bring his BB with him when we go for these kinds of reasons.

I don't really mind it. He doesn't check it much, and it means he has a little peace of mind about things. My job isn't as demanding, but if it was, I'd probably do the same thing.
