And I have a serious problem with spending money. No joke. I'm a bride who is having a big wedding with a spending problem. Ugh. I literally just paid my bills for this month and I was like what the hell did i spend all this money on?
I think I need a finicial advisor. Really. My Mastercard and Visa have so much milage on it. I can't stop spending!!!
My goal was to set aside a certain amount of money each month, but that money that I am supposed to be saving is actually being spent on my damn bills!!!
I need any tips on how I can save some money. I feel like the more I save the more I spend!!!

i have the same problem!!!! considering i have no choiceother than to do it this way bc i have such a spending problem is i am cutting up all my credit cards and getting rid of my debit card...my debit card is big problem for me bc all i do is swipe and swipe and im getting an atm card....i am going to the atm once a week and taking out the amount i am allowing myself to have for the week and thats it..if i spend it than im broke! hopefully it will work!

Ugh, I don't even want to talk about bills right now. This is the first time in over 9 years that I've ever had to ask FH to help me with my bills. It's mainly because we bought the new car, so it's partially on him too anyhow, but still. For a while I was having a piece of each of my paychecks go directly into a savings account. Well now that savings account is gone b/c that's what we used as a deposit on the car. Now I have to rebuild it again

I try to save by not shopping for anything other than on food, house expenses and going out to dinner once in a week/2 weeks (I have to enjoy something in my life!)

I do this. Figure out how much you NEED (not want lol) per day. Then, I add $20 (for gas emergencies, etc) and only carry around that much. I have an emergency card that has like a $200 limit that I keep in my wallet too. Everything else goes in my planner at home unless I know I'll need it.

i usually dont carry much cash on me. i have had my wallet lost/stolen before on a number of occassions, and I would just rather not carry cash with me. Plus, most places take credit cards, so its just soooo much more convenient
I do realize it does NOT HELP with the spending tho....

I definitely don't carry much cash on me either. I only really need like $40 a day, because I drive to work and usually bring my lunch. If I commuted on public transportation, I'd probably be a lot more careful. I had my wallet stolen last year from my classroom, and was really fortunate not to have had any cash in it.
Of course, I do still carry my debit card, obviously. I just meant that if you try to pay with cash, and leave the actual credit cards at home it might be a little bit easier to watch what you're spending.

I direct deposit my extra money into my ING savings account. It takes SO FR*GG*N long for them to transfer money out of it that I only take it out when I really need it. Plus they always seem to have the best interest rate.

leave your credit cards at home and you will realize you wont spend that much cash as opposed to using your cards

I leave my credit cards at home.
I use credit cards that offer rewards, so at christmas time I redeem them... and everyone gets very nice gifts at no extra cost to me. (this especially helps since I put my vendor deposits down on my cc and then pay it in full with the money we've saved).
Bag lunch
No more Starbucks/Dunkin Donuts coffee etc. Make coffee at home, and use a travel container.
Have date night at home order in, get some movies
cancel monthly subscriptions you don't use

It's so funny that you say this. My FSIL was an audience member on the Rachel Ray show a couple months ago when Isla Fisher was on promoting Confessions of a Shopaholic. If anyone saw the episode, the girl who spoke about actually freezing her credit cards and then thawing them out......yup....my FSIL!

I try to not use my credit card at all. I really only use it when i'm paying for something for multiple people. (e.x., a large group gift).
That way i get the points from all their $ but i'm not really paying that much personally.
I know my FH only uses his cc for food shopping and gas. Things that he'll get points back for.

i have a shopping problem,too... but i dont own a credit card. i MUST keep X-amount in my savings NO MATER WHAT. anything over that i usually transfer to my checking and spend it on bills, food, clothes,etc... then if i dont use that checking $$.. i just set a higher goal to keep a high$$ amount into my savings. that way, i still spend like a lunatic, but dont feel too bad cuz i have enough in my savings.
also , direct deposit shoudl go in your savings, not checking. easier to save.
