I was just cutting Kanga's nails and she jumped up when she heard the door. I think I cut the quick of her nail it's bleeding soo bad. Will it stop? Should I take her to the 24hr vet? She's letting me clean it and put pressure on it, I just am nervous about the bleeding. I feel horrible.

Thanks megannbobby, I knew there was some household product I could use. It didn't stop the bleeding though and of course since it's Easter every pet store was closed. I went to the 24 hr vet place in plainview. They told me to use Liquid bandage for humans. Worked perfectly.

Re: Oh no I need help
This happened to us once also. After getting her nails cut she was running around on the pavement and I guess it filed her nails down a little more. I felt so bad. We tried the powder and it helped a little. Thanks for the liquid bandage info. I hope I never have to use it but it's good to know!

I did that once to my Charlie and I freaked out and paniked and made my mom drive us to the vet on the spot. They just giggled at us, cleaned him up, put stuff on his nail and we went home.

also in a pinch - white bread works! Our breeder told us to always have Styptic powder or pads on hand whenever we are cutting Golem's nails (we do) in case we ever cut the quick (we have!) We have the pads which work really well, stops the bleeding in a few seconds! I cut very little tips off Golem's nails when we cut them. His nails are black and it's very hard to see the quick, so I only chop off a tiny bit at a time too. Glad Kanga is OK!

Good stuff to know. Thanks. It didn't even seem to bother her at all, it was just very traumatizing, FOR ME! God help us when we have children
