Yes, he'sa filmmaker, it's what he does for a living and he is making money. He has every right to.
He did however give up the possibility fo Oscar nomination (and I think he would have defintiely won best documentary) for the OFF chance that his movie would be allowed to be shown on netwrok television. All filmmakers would love to win an Oscar, but Moore wants to get his film out to a larger audience BEFORE election day.
I am not saying he doesnt have a right to make money off of the movie... but more controversary makes more money, look at gibson's passion of the christ...
did you see that movie???

The fact is that there IS aq lot of controversy going on ,and Moore is not creating it, but documenting it.
Michigan republicans want to arrest Moore based on a speech he gave in michiagn...this just gets better and better

i never said he lied about anything - i don't like what the man stands for - last time i checked i was entitled to my own opinion. i have the right to choose not to listen to anything he says.
But I also have the right to ask what it is that you don't like that he stands for. You never met him so it can't be because he is an a**hole.

I was asking because many people DO say he's an ******* not having read or seen anything of his. I ASKED. I did not accuse.
And yes he does point out the problems. We can't fix the problems unless we know what they are. I think he's doing a great thing by pointing out problems. He's a filmmaker, not a politician, and he has done good things. He helped those boys in Bowling for Columbine to get Kmart to stop selling ammunition. He speaks out at political rallies to help get people in office who he hopes will make a difference and help solv the problems.
I think it's actualy a shame that we NEED him to point out so many things, that we don't already know them.
And, you can check all of MM's facts. Point out where he lied, and I'll stand corrected.
Well said!

i don't like him b/c he creates controversey. did we really need a movie about 9/11 OR 'the passion of the Christ?'

I also have 'The Passion', if anyone wants to have a LIW screening of the 2 movies that peopel claim can galvanize voters in the upcoming election. Right wing groups pushed 'The Passion' and it did galvanize people to vote Republican based on reliigon, and I still saw BOTH movies within a week of release, and bought both DVD's on they day they came out.

Well I didn't see Passion. I have really no desire to see it either. Im not very religious. Moores movies are documentarys about whats going on in the world.

Uhg, my post just got eaten! if it has no effect on you, then there's really no harm in seeing it! I want to challenge everyone to see it. It can;t change your opinion unless you want it to, and then at least you can make informed commentary about it, and tell everyone NOT to see it if you so choose.
My old post said The Passion was a fi;m said to galvanize right wing voters to vote republican n religious grounds, it gae many peoplea lot of conviciton to vote Bush in the coming election, the same is said for Fahrenheit 9/11 galvanizing people to vote for Kerry. I watched The Passion knowing it had had the effect on people, because I am willing to be open to things I don't agree with. I am willing and enthusiastic about challenging my own assumptions on a daily basis.
I also said, Did we need a movie about Spider man? in spreone to 'did we need a movie about passion and 9/11?'. Filmmaking is an art. I think both are impoirtant fi;ms which is why I decided to see both of them. F9/11 isn't really about 9/11 but more about widespread problems in our world, just like BfC isn;t about Columbine as much as it is about our country's 'obsession' with guns as compared with other nations. I think both movies The passion and fahrenheait 9/11 were very moving and did what they intended to do/

i'm soo sorry that your original post has been 'eaten.' but WHY do you post questions on here when you know that people are going to think differently from you? and i didn't realize that you are such a f%%king expert on 'filmaking.' get over yourself and stop talking down to me. i don't need a film to challenge me, read a book or just chill out. liweddings.com is not that serious. Peace out!

I didn't say I was an expert, I'm not talking down to anyone, and I have no problem with anyone disagreeing with me. If you don't want to watch the movie, that's fine, but my opinion is that it's an important movie that everyone should see, and judge it AFTER they've seen it. if you saw it and still hated it, then we could disucss it after that, based on the actual content of the movie.
I love political debate. I'd hate it if everyone agreed with me. I'd be SO bored. But I haven't run into anyone who has actually SEEN Fahrenheit 9/11 who said they hated it, or thought it was all Bull...., so...
EYA: Why would I ask a question f I knew everyone's answer, and assumed they'd all agree with me? THAT would be pointless!

I don't really know what you don't like about him.
ETA: Tee Hee!
And one of the things I like about LIW is that i can have these discussions with people, even people whose views are diametriaclly opposed to mine and totally go at it in political debate and then totally luagh about something else and be friends (see my many back and forths with don424...we're always arguing, but I have no ill will for him and consider him a friend, at least on LIW, and I assume he feels the same). I may stir the $h!t a little bit, but I'm definitey not here to hate on anyone.

Michael Moore, Mel Gibson, Steven Spielberg, You, Marymoon, Myself...... We all have the right to freedom of speech. Some people choose to use it through filmaking others through LIW. Point is that Moore has the right to stir the pot. He sees what he feels as injustice and sheds his view point on it. You don't have to watch it, but I would hope that you could understand that he is simply executing a right that we all have. I would hate to think of where we as women would be if everyone just decided to stay away from controversy. If Rosa Parks had not decided to sit in the front of a bus. If Martin Luther King Jr. had just kept to himself. The smallest of actions often cause the greatest of change.
