I don't really know what you don't like about him.

I've seen Michael Moore in enough interviews to know I don't like him and don't want to see his movie.

And as for thinking he's an a**hole without ever meeting him: I think Osama Bin Laden is an a**hole, and I've never met him.

ETA: I cannot believe how upset people are getting. The greatest thing we have is our option to read, listen to, or see any form of 'free media' we want. I too think it is an important movie, but not at the expense of someone's freedom.

And even though it is a documentary, it definately does slant the facts, just like all other forms of mass media.

I personally like it, as I stated earlier, but even though the topic may be universal, the emotions are very personal. JMO

Well Osama Admited to killing people. Moore is just showing the problems and why people are being killed in this country.

Uhg, my post just got eaten! if it has no effect on you, then there's really no harm in seeing it! I want to challenge everyone to see it. It can;t change your opinion unless you want it to, and then at least you can make informed commentary about it, and tell everyone NOT to see it if you so choose.

I saw it and if anything, it made me stronger in my support of Bush. If you look at the polls of people walking out of the theater, that's what it did for the vast majority of patrons.

Michael Moore, Mel Gibson, Steven Spielberg, You, Marymoon, Myself...... We all have the right to freedom of speech. Some people choose to use it through filmaking others through LIW. Point is that Moore has the right to stir the pot. He sees what he feels as injustice and sheds his view point on it. You don't have to watch it, but I would hope that you could understand that he is simply executing a right that we all have. I would hate to think of where we as women would be if everyone just decided to stay away from controversy. If Rosa Parks had not decided to sit in the front of a bus. If Martin Luther King Jr. had just kept to himself. The smallest of actions often cause the greatest of change.

Very well said!!

Again, the infamous exit polls. One of the traditionally liberal newspapers claimed exactly the opposite - that their exit polls showed support for Bush was diminished by what people had seen in the movie.

I think it is fair to say that regardless of your feelings before you see the movie, you could find something that suits your beliefs. I do not think this is a movie for Bush haters or just for Kerry supporters.
I also think that is shows how politicians are not devoid of humanity or their desire to be entrepreneurs, or family men...etc. I think people sometimes need to be reminded of that.

And by 'you' I mean those who saw the movie....not just you personally.

Ok, in all fairness, this is really not a valid argument. You have never once in your life passed judgment on someone whom you have only seen interviews with/read about/seen their work? That's pretty unbelievable. I think that Michael Moore puts himself out there enough that people know enough about him to pass their own judgment, whether or not it agrees with yours.

That said, I personally think that Michael Moore, and his extreme counterparts, are necessary in a democracy. They put an issue in front of your face and they make you think about it - I'm never going to think that's a bad thing. I have seen all of his movies but Pets or Meat, which I still want to see, I used to watch his show on Bravo and I have even read 2 of his books. I don't do this because I necessarily agree with his viewpoints (the majority of the time I actually don't). I do it because I need to know both sides of an argument before I can completely form my opinion.

oooh oooh controversy!!

I think he's an a$shole.
Never met him
I also think Saddam's an crazed tyrant
Never met him
I REALLY think Osama's a monster
Never met him

To me, they're all the in that range

We all have the right to free speech. I have no problem with him making a movie about his opinions. Isn't that what movies are all about? But, I have a problem with calling it a documentary. You need two sides of a story to be a true honest documentary. This isn't. It's just an opinion, his.. so I hear.

I don't CARE about him or this movie, just care about how twisted it has become that a man with a 'mission' can make a movie and call it a documentary. I am glad he's dropped his attempt to get an Oscar for it.

Have I seen it? Nope, don't need to.
Do I think he spews lies? Not everything. I think he shows things the way HE sees them and mostly he taints his movies to the audience's deepest desires. He likes controversy more than the truth I think. He's not completely wrong, he's just not 100% truthfull either.

*shrug*

Still I just think he's a **** cause I don't like his attitude. I think Paris Hilton's a ditz too... so what?

One of my all time favorite movie quotes, that I think is appropriate here:

(from American President): 'President Andrew Shepherd: You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil who is standing center stage advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours.'

ETA: Tee Hee!

And one of the things I like about LIW is that i can have these discussions with people, even people whose views are diametriaclly opposed to mine and totally go at it in political debate and then totally luagh about something else and be friends (see my many back and forths with don424...we're always arguing, but I have no ill will for him and consider him a friend, at least on LIW, and I assume he feels the same). I may stir the $h!t a little bit, but I'm definitey not here to hate on anyone.

i appreciate that

here's how i feel

yes i saw the movie
yes i support bush
yes, there were parts of the movie that made bush look really bad
yes the part with the solider's mother was sad
if my son died in iraq, i may feel differently than i do now
in a way, i'm not a good representative because if i was drafted i would go when i can bunk with bush's daughters
but the thing with moore and the movie, you have to consider the source.
Yes, it's factual, but him being a bush hater, put the facts in a way to support his cause
he quotes speeches, but splices them in a way to make his point
so yes it was an impactful film, but not one you should base your vote on wholly
