So, my sister is getting married March 26, 2009 and she had me try on some Bm dresses today. Now, what I want to know is, if the 'average' woman is supposedly a size 14 why are all BM dresses a size 8? Me, being a street size 16 could not squeeze my fat a$$ into any of these dresses which made it hard for my sister to determine what would look good on me. Does anyone else here feel my pain, or am I just whining?

I hear you, OH I hear you.
It was hard finding dresses that looked good, because the samples were all size 8. Do they think we are all model skinny?!

did you try looking at david's bridal? The carry all the dresses in all sizes up to 26.

my friend is in atlanta and all their samples were size 12

That's why I love David's Bridal...they haven't forgotten what it's like to be plus sized.

really? that's interesting, I never knew that! I always thought it was size 8 or 10 samples across the board!! Most samples I saw were 10...with a few 8 and a few 12 thrown in!

Do I hear you?? Are you kidding me?! Not only am I going to be a plus size BM< on May 3 I am going to be a plus size Bride on Oct 19!!! It ***** especially when you try on wedding gowns, man thats fun to try to imagine how you will look on your wedding day!- Not!!!!! Thankfully my gown was a PS bridal gown so I didnt have to imagine- it was like it was made for me! I still have no clue about the BM dress cuz its still not in and I am hoping it will fit. If it doesn't I am scrrewwed! It is a shame that dress company's haven't given in to the 'norm' and send all samples bigger rather than smaller. You can always clip it in the back but you cant imagine it when it is on a hanger over your neck

OMG...I feel your pain!!! I am also a size 16, prob a size 20 when I went dress shopping in July. Every sample was a size 10 or lower...I had to 'IMAGINE' what I was going to look like in the dress. I did find one, and it is in, and fits me perfect! I shopped at several places, and some of them made me feel like I was unrealistic trying on dresses that were a size 10, and others did not even blink helping me into the sample dresses. Good luck! Just make sure the people there make you feel comfortable....Have fun!!!

I totally fell your pain. I'm a plus size bride. I wish i was a 16 but I'm a 22/24. You are not alone. I had to literally squeeze myself into a size 12 sample! I went to David's Bridal, The Wedding Plaza and RK Bridal and they at least had samples in my size. I'm sorry you had to go through that ...and you're right..since when does a 14 translate to a 8.

I went through the same exact thing when I was in one of my BM's weddings. I was really upsetting - especially since her sister and cousin that came with us were small petite size 0... It felt like... oh that looks good, now let's see if the fat girl can pull it off.... I know she didn't mean for it to feel that way - but it did.

oh i feel your pain sweetheard - im not tiny - but im not large - i ordered my dress for my wedding in a 14 - i swear they make all of those samples in such tiny sizes - how are you supposed to visualize what the dress will look like with it not fitting in the right places -

My sentiments exactly! I loved David's Bridal for that one particular reason- my MoH was a size 16 and my MB was a size 8... big diffrence there.
When I was in my friends wedding as a BM we went to David's (all of us) and the other girls in the BP were like a size 12 and 6- I'm a street size 24 just to give you an idea. I cried because the other girls just wanted the sexy dresses that show off a bit too much for a plus sized girl like me.
I was so upset that everything came so small.. the bride (my friend) told them off because they were being so rude to me (the bride was a size 20 btw)
I hear ya girlfriend, I go through the same crap. My wedding dress I had to try on was a 10 I think.

Oh I agree, it was hard for some of my BM, they just had to look at the dress and imagine. Some of my BM are tiny little things, and some are not. Its so unfair sometimes, and yes being a plus size trying on my bridal gown was a bit rough, but thankfully it has a corset back so i got it on and it looked amazing! Then when my dress came in, i ordered a size 16, they wanted me to get a size 18, i opted for the size i wanted. My dress looked amazing, I loved it. But its frustrating sometimes.

I got my wedding dress at David's so I don't remember what it was like to try on such tiny sample sizes and even though I have lost about 10 lbs since January it wasn't enough to fit into an 8. It just makes me feel so mad for all girls who have this issue.
