So, my sister is getting married March 26, 2009 and she had me try on some Bm dresses today. Now, what I want to know is, if the 'average' woman is supposedly a size 14 why are all BM dresses a size 8? Me, being a street size 16 could not squeeze my fat a$$ into any of these dresses which made it hard for my sister to determine what would look good on me. Does anyone else here feel my pain, or am I just whining?

Re: Oh to be a Plus Size BM in a Size 8 world
I feel everyone's pain here. I agree with the statement about the average size woman is a 14. I got ya. I was lucky to find my wedding dress in a size 10 but thank god it was a corset in the back as well. I went to Village bridal and boutique in Babylon Village. I must say that they are so helpful even though I felt funny trying on dresses that were way too small. They are so nice and I just loved my experience there. I did go to one place who the lady said to me. Oh you are about a size 14/16 I am like yes I am. Then she says well you need to go about 2 sizes bigger than your actually size but we have nothing here for you. I just started laughing to myself. People can be rude but believe me I am so over it. I use to be about 60 pounds heavier, so I am use to it. But now being smaller but not in the eyes of aneroxic I still get it. But it just doesn't bother me as much anymore. Plus I am marrying an amazing man, I could go in jeans and a tee shirt for all he would care. BUT I CAN'T. HEHE

me and my mom were so annoyed by this -- I was also at some places where the samples were size 20 (I'm a 14)

I can definitely relate! For bridal gowns I was lucky because I am bottom heavy, my top is at least 2 sizes smaller than my bottom, so it was actually a fun experience dress shopping.... especially since most samples were a 10 or 12. However, a few years ago when I was a BM, my friend who lives upstate took my measurements to her dress shop (I was a size 16 at the time) and when they ordered my dress, they had to order it in a 22!!!! Just to have it fit over my widest part (hips) - the top was HUGE on me. It was such a depressing fitting. I am dreading the next time I am a BM, it's always more difficult dress shopping. That's why I got my dresses at DB, my sister is PS so she was able to try on samples that fit her.
